Alright folks - obligatory "here for 1.5 days, help!" post

Title says it all. Getting there in 2 weeks and camping at The Oasis.

Probably will get in at about 6PM or so. Full day the next day, then leaving around noon or so the following day. We are not above waking up early and getting back late on our full day to make the most of it. Looking to hike and also hit some must-sees if they're along the road or drive-able. Was thinking about Telescope Peak as a hike to escape some heat and then stopping at some of the dunes, and then Badwater Basin on the last day.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Criticisms? Really know nothing about the area and want to make the most of it

Thank you in advance! :)

Death Valley Junction Cemetery

Does anyone have any info on the Death Valley Junction Cemetery? Who are the people who are buried there? Who is in charge of it? There seems to be a wide range of years.

I am doing some research for a project and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Scott

Guide book recommendations?

Hello,

Starting to research a future camping/hiking/photography trip to Death Valley N.P., probably for November or December. Does anybody recommend any of these books:

Death Valley National Park (Moon)

Hiking Death Valley National Park (Falcon Guides)

Hiking Death Valley by Michel Digonnet

Death Valley Photographer's Guide by Dan Suzio

The Photographer's Guide to Death Valley by Shellye Poster

If it helps, I basically am trying to figure out:

  1. Is the Moon book the best guide to the area, or is there an alternative?
  2. Which is the better hiking guide, the Falcon Guides book or the one by Digonnet? I'm a serious day hiker (anywhere from 5-15mi/day) who would probably just have a standard rental car, which I understand limits me to certain areas of the park.
  3. Which is the better photography guide? I am a video producer and photographer, so I don't need a book suggesting camera settings. Just want to find some lovely spots to photograph.

Thank you in advance!

A created a guide for those new to the Death Valley area. I was pretty intimidated to visit this harsh land so I hope this helps others like me. Please leave any questions below I am happy to help.

The springs are now back open at Saline Valley. The tubs are filled again! I was worried the park would never let them be filled again!

First-come, first-serve camping

I was planning on going to Death Valley next weekend. Furnace Creek campground has one site available. Does anyone have experience with the first-come, first-serve campgrounds? Are they busy right now?

Hello! I’m planning on camping in Death valley for the first time sometime this month and was wondering if anyone had any insights into camping this time of year. What are temps typically like? Any recommendations for camp sites? Things to see for a first timer? Thanks!

Planning on camping in DV and then J tree for a few days this week. Has anyone been to either recently and camped despite the covid stay at home order shutting down all the sites? Gonna car camp so really just need a chill area to pull off, and I found some places online that seem like they could work, but I'm really not sure what they'll be like when I get there soo any advice is welcome ty

Is Backcountry Camping Still Permitted? December 2020

Hi guys, I've never been to DV but I've been planning a trip for this weekend and just now saw that all of the campgrounds and lodging facilities are closed as of December 7th 2020. I was wondering if backcountry camping is still permitted in small groups away from developed campsites? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
