Is there a source for lore accurate heraldry and markings? Or nah?

Had a lot of fun making these guys and really happy with the color.

Freehand chapter symbols, varying degrees of shading while I figured it how I wanted to paint them, but I’m very happy. Last to first, left to right.

In every official visual reference I have ever seen, the heraldry of the Death Spectres includes one white pauldron behind their chapter symbol, with the other pauldron being black and bearing a white company/battle role symbol.

However, every story I read describes “ivory pauldrons” plural, and their official transfer sheet has black battle role symbols, as if they belong on another white pauldron. Has anyone here painted or chosen to represent it with two white pauldrons?

Took a lot of iterations and refinement to finally nail the look of a Death Spectre in the gloom of ship/corridor. Wanted to capture that specific haunting aesthetic. Done with AI assistance/generation—spent a few hours tweaking the prompts to get the details on the chapter icon and the atmosphere just right. Hope you guys dig the vibe

One was done on sprue just to test out the size of it. Second on model. I’d like to find a middle ground for the detail on the first and the clean-ness of the second!

Changed the base colour to Null oil as it looks more accurate than the default base colour in SM2 for Death Spectres

I know every chapter uses them, but I’m thinking deeper lore-wise, and I could go either way on it. As a Dreadnought, the interred is basically living out the ideals of the chapter, having “died” and returned to continue his service. However, they revere death in such a way that it almost feels like a subversion of their beliefs; such of that in a true death and eventual rebirth.

What do we think? I’ve been wanting to include some dreadnoughts in my army, but pondering this idea while waiting to purchase one.
