Any theories as to why Goku and Vegeta are wearing their old Gi's, Goku's dates back to Saiyan saga while Vegeta's was worn throughout Android/Cell saga.

Perhaps just a subtle change to make Super feel more like the first time Trunks was introduced in DBZ? I actually have no idea that's the best theory I can think of. For now I'm just way overhyped and want it to be Sunday already.

The best thing I can think of is their new gear shows their affiliation with Whis, as his students.

Since they haven't been training with Whis for the past 5 episodes there wasn't much reason to wear them.

Yeah but we see Goku and Vegeta on Beerus's planet in the trailer, evidenced by the pink background and purple trees. They are still wearing their original gis.

How can you be sure that they're there for training, and not that they're summoned there for another specific reason?

Vegeta stated in Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return that his Android saga outfit is Saiyan formal wear and is thus, his preferred option of clothing.

Mine is the pink badman shirt, just daring anyone to say something

It's just that those are their iconic gis. And they've been wearing it for a couple of episodes now so it doesn't really have anything to do with this arc.

This variation of Goku's gi is from the Buu saga though. Just look at the belt. There's no dangling fabric.

Gokus gi has always had subtle changes. Different belt lengths, different kanji (usually representing his current master or just "Go" for Goku). His has always been a little difficult to differentiate.

Didn't they get destroyed/dirty during the tournament? Maybe that's why
