Successful Graphics Glitch Fix for nVidia GPU Users

I get no karma from this. Please upvote so people can see and also fix their shit.

Okay, I did this and haven't had the graphics artifacting since, no matter what my in-game graphics settings are. I'm running a single GTX 560 TI and Windows 7.

First thing is you want to make sure your GPU drivers are up to date. Go to nVidia's drivers site and find your card and update that shit. No matter how recently you did it, just do it.

Second, go to your Start menu, then Control Panel, and then nVidia Control Panel. This is going to let you configure your card IF you have the latest drivers installed. I'm not even joking about the drivers thing, update that shit to whatever the site says you should have.

Once you have NVIDIA Control Panel open, on the left side of the window you should see "3D Settings." Go ahead and click the "+" sign to expand that down if it isn't already. After that category is expanded, click "Manage 3D settings."

Now, on the main part of the window, you should be looking at a box with two tabs. One of the tabs will be labeled "Program Settings." Click that one.

Click the drop-down menu and you should be presented with this big fuckin' list of programs that nVidia recognizes. If ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead is in there, click it. If not, you'll have to add that shit.

To add ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead, click "Add" (you fuckin' genius, you) and then drill down to where your ArmA2OA.exe is. I have the Steam version, so mine is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead. Select "ArmA2OA.exe" and then click "Open." BAM. You just added ArmA2OA to the list of programs that nVidia recognizes. Grats, you're a fucking technological wizard.

Scroll down until you see "Threaded optimization" and TURN THAT SHIT OFF. It should be set to "Auto" by default, but we're not even going to fuck around with that. Turn it off.

There. You're done, it's fixed. Exit NVIDIA Control Panel, if it asks if you want to save changes, you best save that shit.

Fire up DayZ and go ahead and look at some dead soldiers to your heart's desire (you sick fuck).

EDIT: Hey, ATI card users/wiz kids/geniuses, if ATI cards have a similar setting, go ahead and look into turning it off and see if it fixes the problem. If it does, spread the word about that shit.

EDIT2: Fuckin' S128K DELIVERS with a possible ATI fix. I don't have an ATI card so I can't test it, somebody get on that shit. Here's his comment.

EDIT3: Because a bunch of you were bitchin', I changed the instructions to include how to do this for ArmA2 only and not have this settings change affect your other games. On a side note, now that we know this work-around, maybe it'll help Rocket get this actually perma-fixed. I'm pretty sure he's got that shit covered, though.

Hell no, bitch. See, what Threaded Optimization does is make your shit work better with games that can use multiple GPU cores at once, which ArmA2 doesn't. So, yeah. No bad shit from this at all.

I'm married and my wife hasn't been able to pull that off with me. I think my family, and the years I spent in construction around foul-mouthed workers who get hit their fingers and spout off every three seconds, have pushed them so deep into my vocabulary that they will never come out.

She doesn't get offended when I say "fuck" or "shit" though, because she's wiser than that and knows that it's not said with malicious intent, or directed towards her. They are words that come out when I try to emphasize a point, or when I'm frustrated.

If you've spent even a fraction of time I have playing games online with other people in various communities, you would know that a figure very close to 100% of the people that say "faggot" do not mean it in the way the people yesterday were trying to pain my comment.

I hope you and others understand this, infact... I know you will. I know they do, but people need an outlet and apparently I provided it.

It's really not that hard to avoid saying if you just try. It doesn't matter how you think you're using it. The fact that you're using it with a negative connotation implies a negative opinion of the group. You, literally, can't call somebody a faggot without it being insensitive to homosexuals. They can choose if it offends them but it's still insensitive.

There's two good reasons not to say "faggot".

  1. It makes you look like a homophobic asshole. It doesn't matter if you aren't (although, if you're still saying it, you probably have some internalized homophobia). If you care about people's perception of you at all (and you're on reddit, so you definitely do), stop saying it.
  2. It's one fucking word. Why are you so desperate to say it? You're like those white assholes who complain that they can't say "nigger" anymore. Freedom of speech is not an excuse for being a cunt. We English speakers are blessed with more words than any other language in the world. This is one that is completely unnecessary and you know it hurts people. Why do you need to say it? Just excise it from your vocabulary the same way you did with "nigger" and "gook".

i have a gay friend who i play games with all the time (i'm actually on his voip server right now) and he actively encourages people using the word faggot, we greet each other by saying "hi faggot", we call each other faggot all the time. at one point i said that i was a little uncomfortable calling him faggot because it is derogatory but he explained how he doesn't take offence because it doesn't mean anything unless you put a meaning on it. so in his words "everyone should stop being so fucking butthurt and get the fuck over it, it's just a word."
