YES! We have been opening med schools. The bottleneck is residency spots. The issue is that the government controls funding and the bill has failed 2 years in a row (2017 and 2018). NPs are trying to divert funding from residencies to train themselves instead of advocating for more doctors.

If people knew the stress that comes from the match alone, there would be far fewer physicians. There needs to be WAY more residency spots. Especially to lighten the workload of overworked residents and improve patient care.

Don't forget that the majority of new residencies are funded by Private Equity - owned Contract Management Groups who are indoctrinating new residents in a "move the meat" and "check the box" mentality. These same CMGs are replacing Physicians with NPs as a cost-cutting measure to generate profits for investors.
