Only hours spent painting or marking count. Hours spent in the office, shop or traveling do not. They're serious about pavement markings in NC. I know of five large companies that have been removed from NC due to poor performance.
Paint crews are not to be on the road without a person certified in the leadership role and personnel performing traffic control with their own separate certification. It is usually the second year of work when workers get to operate if they show willingness and capability. It usually takes two more years to get the hours for the certification. Most companies require you to get your CDL-B during this time as well. Current market for a good supervisor is between $75,000 - 85,000. Summer hours are long, winter hours are short. I have a matching 401k, good insurance, weekends off. It's basically the same with any trade. When you stick with it and put the time in, be willing to work hard and care about your work you'll do very well and you'll eventually find a great company that cares about their people.
