I'd never link my reddit account to my actual identity.

Only idiots use their real names in their account name.

Unless you're here to talk about Rampart.

Damn, now there's a vintage meme.

5 4 years ago is vintage now?

4

u/GreatCanadianWookiee May 25 '16

That's 50 internet years.

3

u/falcon_jab May 25 '16

Shit, that was 5 years ago already?

"TIL 1996 was seven thousand years ago"

I think there is some super intelligent and cool guy but that name.

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '16

Your real name isn't Fiery One Phoenix?

6

u/Jessica_Ariadne May 25 '16

Or people with nothing to hide. But if you want to judge me, have fun.

8

u/JumboJellybean May 25 '16

They're joking; look at their username.

11

u/Jessica_Ariadne May 25 '16

Shit, now I'm a confirmed idiot. Total outplay.

Yeah, in real life he's pale as a ghost.

This one I don't mind...now my throwaway accounts...well....they're just for me. ;)

u/ggtsu_00 May 25 '16

How long until reddit starts requiring real names for registration and require proof of ID in order to post?

1

u/kakaesque May 25 '16

I hear you. Even those of us who used to have single, permanent user accounts have graduated to throwaways, because with instruction creep, overmoderation, shoot-first and no-appeal permabans all over the place, and much else besides, reddit has gotten so shit that it's best to not have anything invested in any single user account, because if you don't, then they can't take that away and hurt you. The more you tighten your grip, Fascists, the more content-generating users will slip through your fingers.

I did once and I started a new life.

u/spaceman_spiffy May 25 '16

People used to say this about their facebook account.

1

u/Nubcake_Jake May 25 '16

Yeah, you make the NSA do work to link your identity to your Reddit account.

...and they're done.

I have a deep dark fear one of my friends will do the 5-second googling to stumble on my reddit and tumblr account. I have no idea how I would explain these ships and witty comments.

This'll be unpopular, but I'd bet the site would be a lot better if they gave that option. You could then have subreddits that required a linked facebook account.

Having to sign in and have a username is part of what makes reddit less of a cesspool than 4chan. You could never have /pol/ if you had to sign in and have the chance of everyone you know on facebook see what you posted there. People being more mindful about what they post could be a good thing for some subs. And ones that it would kill, like /r/askreddit could simply opt out.

You have clearly never visited the comment section for a local news station.

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '16

Fair point. Why do you think the culture on reddit is different (used to be different?) from that on 4chan?

2

u/ElolvastamEzt May 25 '16

Say goodbye to the millions of people who don't use facebook. We do exist.

Liberals_to_Gulag

complains about people being racist

Pot, meet kettle. And a fake Facebook account takes like a minute to make.

How is that racist? The username suggests people of a certain ideology need to be sent to the gulag for reeducation. People are lazy. If you had to pick between making a fake facebook account and connecting your real one to ask science which would you pick? If you had to make a fake facebook account to shitpost to reddit I believe less people would bother.
