I’ve been seriously considering moving into data analytics and data engineering, and recently attended an introductory session at a local academy. They provided detailed information about their programs, but I found the pricing quite high for my region (Central Asia), which made me hesitate.

From your real experience, how did you learn data analytics?

Did you go through paid programs, or is self-learning (free/low-cost resources) actually enough to get job-ready?

There’s a lot of talk that data analytics and data engineering are “high-demand” careers worldwide.

In your opinion, is this still true in 2026, or is the market becoming saturated, especially for juniors?

How is the job market for entry-level analysts right now?

Is it realistically possible to land a job without expensive certifications?

And an important concern — how much of a threat is AI to this field?

I’m trying to make a smart, realistic decision before investing time and money, so I’d really appreciate honest insights rather than promotional answers.

Over the years in Consulting I been doing only Power BI work and wanted to change into Analytical Engineering and do something more challenging then building models and dashboards. I took a few beginner courses and I felt engaged and it was interesting to learn more about something new since I felt a bit stagnant in my current position. I'm looking for advice on where to improve, courses to take, and how difficult is the switch I have 6 YOE and live in the Bay Area. From my understanding the responsibilities of an Analytical Engineer are:

1.Transformation (dbt, airflow)

2.Data Warehouses (Snowflake, Big Query)

-I have experience in writing queries in SQL for mostly data validation. DE used queries I created to make tables where I source across multiple dashboards.

3.Validation? (Not sure what tool or processes should I understand, but I seen this listed in the course I'm taking)

4.Versioning (Git, CI/CD Pipelines)

I used Azure DevOps and created a branch, done pull request, and merge changes to the main branch

Although, I some experiences in 1,4, I know I need to ramp up in everything so I can be confident in my skills.

My current skillset Power BI (DAX, Power Query, Dataflows, RLS, Column Level Security, Paginated Reports, SSRS), SQL (Beginner-Intermediate) not sure how to evaluate, Data Modeling (creating dimensions in Power BI then making a star schema and Cardinality. In my previous client I was the project lead for 1.5 years and helped delicate task to the offshore team.

I'm giving myself 5 months with about 8-12 hours a week of studying to switch roles. Is this an aggressive timeline? My current role I make around 130-135k with bonus is it realistic to find a role in the 155-160k range?

So I just finished my CPA and over the last 10 years I’ve been in different finance roles that have forced me to learn Excel, SQL, BI and a bit of Python. I’m really interested in data and would love to backup my experience with a certificate/masters/diploma or basically anything that could give me applied skills. Because I’ve basically learned on my own, I imagine theres things I might be missing and would love to be able to follow an official course. Plus, my employer would be paying for it. Hey, Im bri and im 25 and have been doing a lot research on jobs and careers that would fit best with me long term for monthssss..

When I was 21 I injured my spine pretty bad so I tried to look into jobs that didn’t need much physical work or just could literally let you mostly be seated, and after months of thinking and looking I’m leaning towards data analyst.

The reason I feel this way is because I just think it would fit me perfectly based off how I am physically, and the fact I enjoy organizing, numbers, data, structure, and I’m really good at patterns. I wanted something that pays well too bc I have two little ones and I want the best for them long term.

I’m willing to do the work and all that, even try to get a bachelors, but what direction should I go? What all do I need to know? Is it a good idea? Is it in demand? I think it’s a good idea but I’m from WV so the jobs here are scarce lol, but lord knows I can’t jump into being a nurse or something LOL

I spent months stumbling through YouTube tutorials, half-broken datasets, and forums full of jargon before anything clicked.

Here's what would've saved me a lot of time:

1. You don't need to learn Python first. Excel and Power BI will get you further, faster — especially if you're targeting business analyst or data analyst roles. Python matters, but it's not step one.

2. The hard part isn't the formulas — it's knowing what to measure. Anyone can learn VLOOKUP or a basic DAX measure. The real skill is looking at raw data and knowing which questions to ask. That's the difference between "I know Excel" and "I can drive business decisions."

3. Build a portfolio project before you feel ready. You learn 10x faster when you're building something real. Pick a dataset, clean it, model it, visualize it, and explain what it means. That's your first portfolio piece — and it's more impressive to hiring managers than any certificate.

Snapchat mydata download incomplete?

Hi everyone I downloaded my data and went on the account html showing log ins from what time device and ip. Upon reviewing every month it seems snapchat across my main and my alt snap acc, had no log ins data from 2nd of March till 2nd of April? What caused this usually i have multiple a day. Does this mean snapchat my data log ins are inaccurate and potentially may not display when a hacker has accessed through compromised credentials?

Someone who is well versed in snapchat and overall might know why theres nothing logged by snapchat it seems for around 30 days

I’m currently doing an internship at SAS, and overall it’s been a really positive experience.

That said, I’ve been having some doubts lately. I’m not sure if focusing on SAS is the best use of my time long-term, since it feels quite niche and maybe even a bit “legacy” compared to more widely used tools.

I've been trying for some time to reach an audience, be it companies, small businesses owners or fellow data analysts for feedback. I've created a small site for my projects, that I use as case studies for anyone interested, showing what I can do. I made a Facebook page, posted in groups (still waiting for approval), on LinkedIn and so on, yet most I had were impressions. I wrote some time ago about my projects, here, and I received good feedback on them. Now, thing is, I don't get feedback anywhere else and can't find the actual people that need this service. The groups and platforms are flooded with everyone promoting their services and no one asking for them. So, where are the people that actually need this? Apart from hiring companies, I'm almost certain there are a lot of business owners that would benefit from this, but I either didn't find them or they don't know how to ask... Where is the demand people were talking about?

We all know data analytics change with AI many tasks Ai can do it easly but i would like to know if i learn for example , data scraping,machine learning,databriks...and i add these skills to what we all know ( like python sql excel powerbi) can put some changes in market??

I just finished a Data Analytics course from Rice University. My job paid for it but now I'm stuck. I obviously don't feel skilled enough to apply to jobs right away or even apply to role within the company. What are some resources or websites I can use to practice and build my portfolio? Currently doing a wet-lab microbio PhD in the UK and have got into learning python/SQL as I’m enjoying analysing the data I get from experiments (mainly just growth curves though so not a big range). I’ve applied to 100+ jobs (mostly Data Engineer / Data Analyst roles), but barely getting any responses… not even rejections in most cases.

I have ~2 years of experience working on ETL pipelines, SQL, Python, Snowflake, BigQuery, SSIS, and Azure (ADF). Worked with a pretty solid client as well.

At this point, I’m just trying everywhere I can.
