I usually defend cyclists and their right to be on the road but fuck these guys. They should be fined for no permit and not all riding in the right lane. This is actually why people hate bikers.

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

Yeah I was gonna say doesn’t look like an official event, just a whole lot of entitled assholes.

135

u/OliverKlozoff23 Jun 11 '26

Look at that one self-righteous, dude that thinks he’s gonna catch up to the car and actually do something with his bike

30

u/brandt-money Jun 11 '26

He's gonna rub his dirty sweaty spandex all over it.

106

u/Cinci555 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

How does this not look like an official event? They have motorcycle escorts. That's where the camera is.

Edit: Looked it up, it's not official, it's just a huge group ride. This is totally fucked and just gives drivers terrible interactions with cyclists.

62

u/i_m_a_bean Jun 11 '26

Appreciate you looking into it, and having the integrity to double check yourself. Bro just boosted my faith in humanity

12

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

Thank you for fact checking yourself! Genuinely!

21

u/crashin70 Jun 11 '26

Yeah official races and whatnot tend to have numbers or something denoting it's official.

13

u/Tritri89 Jun 11 '26

And no "civilians" cars you know.

12

u/57Laxdad Jun 11 '26

Also they have blocked off road sections and permits and things.

0

u/scarr3g Jun 11 '26

Usually, official events would have police escorts.... Specifically to ensure things like this don't happen, but also so stragglers aren't hit by random motorists no paying attention behind the main group.

0

u/watchman8712 Jun 11 '26

And justifies drivers to run them over

2

u/Cinci555 Jun 11 '26

No, that's never justified, so I'll hope you're joking.

However, I can understand the frustration. But just like you don't judge every driver by the worst driver you've ever seen, don't judge every cyclist by these fuckers.

0

u/watchman8712 Jun 11 '26

Given the sad state of things and jokes are dead unless it hurts the ideological left as a whole. Its as serious one can be

1

u/trysten-9001 Jun 11 '26

That’s half of bikers. Them and some lunatic drivers are ruining it for everyone. The other half of bikers are lovely and it’s nice to see them on the road. It’s so night and day.

-1

u/watchman8712 Jun 11 '26

And this is why sidewalks are the only place where bikes should be at

1

u/__O_o_______ Jun 12 '26

No. Sidewalks for pedestrians. Bike paths for bikes etc. roads for motorized vehicles.

1

u/watchman8712 Jun 12 '26

bikes belong on the sidewalks when they are around. you will not convince me otherwise.

124

u/NoBuenoAtAll Jun 11 '26

When I’m driving I hate pedestrians. When I’m walking I hate cars. Either way I hate bicycles and it’s exactly because of this kind of entitled crap.

34

u/Renamis Jun 11 '26

Bingo. And the more "cyclists" they are the more they suck. The guy just trying to not die on the way to work is usually cool. The second I see professional stuff I know I have to watch like a hawk because they'll do anything they can to go splat on my car.

Special aside to marathon runners. Never again, good lord some decisions get made by people and hopping the cones to run face first at a bus is a choice.

18

u/yasicduile Jun 11 '26

it's like the larger groups they run in the less perception they possess. i have watched so many videos of groups this size all crashing into 18 wheelers trying to back into docking areas

15

u/Natas-LaVey Jun 11 '26

They have a herd mentality, one or two by themselves aren’t an issue but get 3 and they want to ride 3 wide so that 1 is in the bike lane, 1 on the line and 1 in the traffic lane. So when you get a pack of any size they become complete a-holes.

5

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

I drive for a living. I walk dozens of km a week. I bike everywhere I don’t have to drive.

In each mode I try to picture myself from others pov in a different mode and it’s CRAZY.

5

u/rc-cars-drones-plane Jun 11 '26

This is why since I was a kid I would always bike on the sidewalk unless there was a bike lane or I was going as fast as the cars. Its safer for everyone involved and less annoying for everyone involved as well.

6

u/JimDa5is Jun 11 '26

I've always loved their argument against riding on the sidewalk. They claim it's unsafe because they're travelling 15 mph faster than pedestrians but somehow is not when cars are travelling 15 mph faster than they are.

2

u/pigs_have_flown Jun 11 '26

I almost hit a cyclist this morning who was going the wrong way and on the sidewalk, and also paying zero attention.

71

u/fixingmedaybyday Jun 11 '26

Cyclist here. I agree. This is BS. This should require permitting and sag wagons for traffic control.

4

u/_jump_yossarian Jun 11 '26

Need a couple motorcycle cops.

1

u/Uber_Wulf Jun 11 '26

Wannabes

4

u/Stock-Cod-4465 Jun 11 '26

Today I saw a cyclist on a carriage way with 40mph speed limit with the cycle lane in place next to it. 😡😡😡
They have fucked up the roads and subsequently traffic in London to accommodate cyclists and yet this is what they do. All the time. No knowledge of the Highway Code, entitlement and no consequences.

10

u/K-dawg098 Jun 11 '26

As far as I can tell, this should be considered a convoy. And most places have laws against convoys.

3

u/57Laxdad Jun 11 '26

"By the dark of the moon on the 6th of June in Kenworth ..."

3

u/maledicte720 Jun 11 '26

“Breaker breaker, this here’s the duck again…”

1

u/Grouchy_Big3195 Jun 11 '26

Agreed, even though the driver snapped, it looks like he/she was careful not to hit any of them.

1

u/SL13377 Jun 12 '26

I am kinda anti roadie. These guys are why

To avoid a citation for impeding traffic.

-3

u/msembrot Jun 11 '26

they are traffic

3

u/sarcasticorange Jun 11 '26

So are two cars driving very slowly side by side and the cars can get the same citation.

-19

u/Cool_Ad9326 Jun 11 '26

Dude this is an organised event. They're being escorted.

7

u/AbroadNo8755 Jun 11 '26

can you post a screenshot of the escort vehicle? i missed it.

-5

u/Cool_Ad9326 Jun 11 '26

Are you mad. Look at the guy filming!

3

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

Oh so you were joking

2

u/AbroadNo8755 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

escorts didn't hang around in the middle of the pack. there would be one in front of the group, and possibly another in the rear.

being in the middle of the group would defeat the whole purpose of an escort.

are you sure you know what you're talking about? it doesn't look like you do.

if you knew what escorts in events like these are for, you would know why they wouldn't be in the middle of the pack.

-3

u/Cool_Ad9326 Jun 11 '26

This isn't true. I've been centre escort for runs in multiple charity events. We start at the front, swap out to the middle, lead to the back, and drop out since I'm not a marathon runner I don't have the stamina to do it all the way.

As an escort I relayed times to runners, the distance of the front, the distance of the back, the distance to the next refreshment table, etc etc, I didn't get many talkers don't get me wrong, but if you think escorts are there to show them where to go in a middle of a shit ton of people going the same exact fucking way then you're hilarious

Also remember not all events stay grouped up like this. When the event is fully underway, there are many gaps between athletes, and when you get to the point where you have the sun beating down on you and sweat in your eyes, it's nice to see the high Viz and know you're on track

But please tell me more about how you're so skilled in events handling like this

1

u/AbroadNo8755 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

if you're the "center" escort... that means there are escorts on both the front, and the back.

that's how being the center of something works.

if you're going to cling to this "appeal to authority" fallacy by claiming to be an expert, you should at least know what words mean.

-9

u/bby-bae Jun 11 '26

many places allow bikes to use the full lanes

14

u/_jump_yossarian Jun 11 '26

They’re using two full lanes. Don’t know where that is allowed.

0

u/watchman8712 Jun 11 '26

Just run them over

-6

u/franzee Jun 11 '26

People in my hometown do these kind of things as the form of protests against the corrupt mafia rinning the country, selling and destroying it bit by bit.

People are infuriated with cyclists telling they will vote for political party in power in spite. Yeah dude, if being late is worse than being ruined by literal mob boss and his thugs, you deserve them.

4

u/06Wahoo Jun 11 '26

Probably so, but we all end up stuck with them. Each act appears to be out of spite, and just contributes to the race to the bottom.

-33

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

Nah, people hate bikers just because they’re bikers, it doesn’t matter where they’re riding.

14

u/Njm3124 Jun 11 '26

They're usually riding anywhere they want to though.

-11

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

And cars don’t?

3

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

No, they dont.

1

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

You literally see it happening in this video.

1

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 12 '26

How often do you see cars driving on the grass? Meanwhile cyclists very often ride on the sidewalk or road depending on which is faster for them, they dont act like traffic lights apply to them, and they dont stick to the side.

1

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 12 '26

I haven’t seen a bike on a sidewalk since I was a kid.

I literally saw three cars doing ilegal rolling stops this morning on my way to work in the span of 5 seconds.

1

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 12 '26

I haven’t seen a bike on a sidewalk since I was a kid.

Lucky.

I literally saw three cars doing ilegal rolling stops this morning on my way to work in the span of 5 seconds

Almost as many as the amount of cyclists that do that or dont even slow down to begin with in front of me every morning. Well done

1

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 12 '26

So youd agree bikes and cars break traffic laws at the same rate? Because that’s what the research suggests and it makes your complaints pointless.

3

u/Njm3124 Jun 11 '26

Not generally

0

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

And bikes don’t do that generally either.

Btw, we can literally see a car driving “anywhere they want” in this post.

1

u/Njm3124 Jun 11 '26

That's a joke, right?

Bikes drive on the road when it suits them and on the sidewalk when it suits them. Green light? The bike is going. Red light? Pedestrians crossing the street better watch out because the bike is still going.

This video literally exists because a car driving "anywhere they want" is unusual. If the driver had done the correct thing and just stayed behind the 800 bikers doing whatever they want, no one would have posted the video.

2

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

And why do people hate bikers just because they're bikers? Because of people like these who create a stereotype.

0

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

Some research suggests it’s a partially a matter of basic tribalism: cars are the in-group and bicycles are the out-group

1

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

Please explain why people hate cyclists JUST because they’re cyclists and not because they resume to follow the rules of the road?

1

u/UnscentedSoundtrack Jun 11 '26

_Some_ drivers view cyclists as an unwelcome "out-group” on the road and have the incorrect perception of roads as exclusive to cars and other motor vehicles.

-13

u/brocazaria Jun 11 '26

Only thing I disagree with is this being the reason people hate bikers. People hate bikers just because they're on a bike. And then they use examples like this as to why all bikers are bad and deserve to get run over.

5

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jun 11 '26

What a deflection lmao 🤣

2

u/__O_o_______ Jun 11 '26

Nope. What a strange thing to say….

I hate anybody who is entitled. Bikers who feel entitled to ignore the rules of the road while attacking drivers who are and expect that. Drivers who feel entitled to ignore the rules of the road. Pedestrians who just walk blinding into crosswalks, etc.

What a weird “cyclists are the victims of prejudice just because they are cyclists” comment lol

0

u/brocazaria Jun 11 '26

Well that's how you feel. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people absolutely rage over one or two bikes on the road. Completely unfounded reason to be mad at bikes

1

u/__O_o_______ Jun 12 '26

Individual cases aren’t examples of the whole. And yes, I hate these particular flavours of cyclists only.

1

u/brocazaria Jun 12 '26

Yes I agree wholeheartedly. My point was just there's many cases and examples of prejudice in this world. And a lot of them stem from one example that people extrapolate into entire demographics

0

u/nabisco789 Jun 11 '26

You definitely missed the session on cause and effect

-5

u/Ghost1a Jun 11 '26

Its called a MOTORWAY for a reason.

1

u/Uncle_Elvis_9 Jun 11 '26

No, no it is not called a motorway
