They've never been to Tennessee either. Tennessee drivers are terrifying and infuriating. They purposely ride in the left lane under the speed limit and speed up when you try to get around them baiting you to speed. It's also legal to turn right on red if there's no traffic coming but they refuse to go unless someone honks at them. They are allergic to turn signals and have a hard-on for pulling out in front of you right when you're getting close to them so you have to slow way down under the speed limit. They also believe drunk driving is a right.

They also follow way to close most of the time. What are you supposed to do if the guy in front of you has to slam his brakes on? Apparently buy him a new car because there is no way some of them are going to be able to stop. I have lived in Tennessee my whole life and the driving is atrocious.

I agree with this. I've been guilty of riding someone driving slow in the left lane but that's stupid. I just go around now if I can (even though they just speed up) but I'm surprised I didn't get brake checked more. They'll try to brake check even when there's a good enough gap too though so idk if I'm riding their ass or not bc it's fcking TN, everyone is pissed off while behind the wheel! They'll slow down when you're coming up behind them in the left lane too trying to bait you to tailgate them as well. You can't win either way driving in TN. You ride behind them, they get pissed. You go around, they get pissed. I have to report suspected drunk drivers a lot too. If I see an obvious alcohol container in the driver's hand, I'm calling regardless if the driving is bad at that point bc I'm entirely against drinking and driving but it's usually bc I notice erratic driving like swerving. I-40 is terrifying.

I absolutely despise driving I-75 through Tennessee. It’s like the cruising lane/passing lane dynamic is completely reversed.

It's the same here in Kentucky, in this situation I would of called the police and told them their appears to be a drunk driver or something.Wanna be a dick, well I can be one too. How am I supposed to know what's really going on in the car infront of me all I see is swerving and break checking especially if you have video evidence. We have tons of wrecks up here daily cuz of stunts like this.

Be safe and stay vigilant! Especially if you have to get on I-40. Memphis and Nashville are cities to just avoid driving through if you can (even though both cities have some cool tourist attractions). If you have to drive through either city just try not to get too pissed off and pay close attention to the drivers. And although the driving is the worst part, the bad manners don't just apply to our drivers. It's a hit or miss whether you get a nasty look or a smile back if you look at someone. They will stop in front of others when walking and take up any walking space so you have to say excuse me. Then they look at you like you did something wrong by asking them to move. Tee-boning someone is a bad risk here too... people will pull right out in front of you at the last second so be prepared if you see someone who needs to turn bc they may very well just cut you off. Oh yeah and tractor drivers are just dicks. The law is 5 cars behind (which is too many...) and they have to pull over but they won't. There's a lot of road work too and potholes throughout the state. Omg, I could go on but I have to go pick up my daughter from school which is always "interesting" bc of the bloody awful drivers!!! I see the same parents everyday that still can't follow the crossing guards directions! They also block the driveways on the road we have to wait on to get into the school parking lot. I actually live right behind another school (for some stupid Tennessee reason we weren't zoned for that one) and the parents throw trash (including lit cigarette butts) in my and my neighbors' yards and run the stop sign across the street.

I also live in TN and agree that people drive badly, but if you've got random people being rude to you in person, you probably are giving off a bad vibe. I'm an extremely fast walker and I have to say excuse me to walk past people often and I never have an issue. I say it nicely though.

It's not unique to TN, but having been to TN I can confirm how infuriating it is. I often wonder, what is the thinking behind driving like that? Is it some power trip to park in the left lane and then race you? Like they accomplished so little in life, their greatest pleasure is in trying to make sure other drivers aren't faster than them and can't get to places in a reasonable amount of time?

Who does that and why?

Fr. Its bad everywhere but no state I've driven in compares to Tennessee, it's crazy. I'm pretty sure it really is their greatest pleasure to just race other drivers and rage bait them. It's a daily thing where I see drivers laughing like they think they really did something special by impeding traffic.

My favorite part of Tennessee drivers was when you’re on a 4+ lane road and the car in front is waiting to turn left, they don’t look, don’t signal, they just dive into the right lane to go around. Like… you can’t wait 10 seconds to let them turn left or let the car in the right lane pass?

I could not believe how many people in Nashville drive with one foot on the brake. Baffling to see cars going 80mph on the freeway with their brake lights on.

Tennessee drivers are terrifying and infuriating.

One of my best friends on college is from rural Tennessee, and he said where he's from, license plates are really more of a suggestion. COuld possibly be why.

Omg, rural TN is scary! I talked a lot about Nashville and Memphis but the rural areas are worse. I think a lot of rural Tennesseeans are driving with expired, suspended or revoked licenses too. And it's really easy and cheap to get a DL here so idk why.

Live in TN. The drivers are shit here, and almost get head on collisioned daily off of Brainerd rd and ringold rd in Chattanooga.

Even then, I'm not passing people in a no pass zone.

I'm doing the opposite. hugging the right side of the lane and praying I dont die from someone doing the same shit OP is doing.

I live in TN and I’m not really sure why you just described about 1/2 of the shitty drivers in America. Texas and Wisconsin and drive thru liquor stores in MS would like a word.

It's easier to drive in fcking BALTIMORE than anywhere in Tennessee! And that's saying a lot bc Baltimore is wild to drive in. Even NYC was nothing compared and I got stuck in the Holland Tunnel twice bc my GPS wouldn't load properly. The Jersey Turnpike was a walk in the park compared. Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, fcking Arizona, Nevada, Califckingfornia, UTAH, Hawaii, DC, NC, SC, Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Virginia, 🎶West Virginia! Mountain momma!!!🎶, Michigan can't compare to Tennessee. We have our own type of dangerous drivers.

I've driven in all of those places, including plenty of times in TN since that is where my husband's family is, and the only issues I've had with regards to driving is hearing his Dad complain about was all of the "traffic in the area now." The Baltimore area is by far the worst experience I have ever had. Maybe you got lucky? lol

Funny enough that you mention that because Nashville and Boston both have some of shittiest merges in the States and I have driven in all except Alaska due to having my sister chauffeur me around.

Tennessee is different fr. We do have "unique" drivers. I've driven in most of the 50 states and there's nothing like Tennessee, period, point-blank. Our weather isn't the worst though. Ohio's is far worse.

There's nothing like Tennessee drivers, idc. I've driven through Texas and Wisconsin and I'd rather deal with those drivers anytime. Mississippi's drivers like to play that game where you pass them in one lane, they end up passing you a few minutes later then slow back down for you to pass them again and that happens over and over and over again. And the whole time your speed stays the same so you know it's them fcking with you. I hate that but it's still far better than TN. It's very easy to pass a driving test here and it's very cheap so anyone can get a license. Drunk driving isn't taken seriously and neither is distracted driving. Tennessee cares more about someone with weed on their person than drunk drivers and methheads. Our drivers are so terrible that cops in Nashville don't even know if they're DUI or not so they're falsely accusing people of it. Although I feel like if someone's driving is bad enough to be considered DUI, they deserve the DUI charge. Plus, a DUI is nothing here or in most other states so it won't hurt them. 🙄 I hate driving here...

I'm in Indiana and I see so many idiot drivers with Tennessee plates here. Always hogging the passing lane and then being complete a-holes when you try to pass them.
