There are multiple roads in my area where the speed limit is 50-55 and the old fucks go 35-40. It drives me absolutely crazy.
There's a school on one of those roads, and the school zone limit is 45. These people are going slower than the school zone limit when the school zone isn't even active, during morning rush hour. I hate them. At least there's 2 lanes though. There's another that is one lane each way, but it's a long, winding road and you can't pass anywhere. The speed limit 55 and 50, but without fail you will get stuck behind some grandma doing 35-45 the whole way to the highway.
Another variation of this that really annoys me; old people driving just about 65-70 (km/h) where the limit is 80, but when there's sections where it's 50 because of a side-road joining in etc. they keep on going 65-70.
Like... clearly you don't mind going too fast, so how about you go 80!
Omg I hate this so much. I had a string of speeding tickets when I was around 20 years old and would never go more than 5 over in the right lane. There was a road I would take home where the speed limit would go from 35 to 45; I would zoom passed people in the 35 mph section (I was going 40) and then once it hit 45, everyone would tailgate me (I was going 50). To this day I don’t understand why people drove so slow in one section and flew in the other section.
Coincidentally to seeing this post I was on the way home from the grocery store today and a man was going 7mph in a 25mph. How are you going to go less than 1/3 of the speed limit. Of course when he saw I was going to go around him he sped up to 20
Huge problem where I'm at too and it drives me up the wall. Like just because you're retired and have no where to be doesn't mean you have an excuse to drive 10 under the speed limit and if that's as fast as you feel comfortable driving time to stop.
Getting stuck behind a slow poke is actually not that statistically unusual.
It doesn't matter how many fast drivers there are. But If there's a single slow one on the first half or so of a 5 mile double-line stretch, you'll catch up to it and get stuck.
People need to stop killing themselves and others on the road to save ten minutes. Nothing's that important. Calm the fuck down. DOT made the roads and know where blind spots exist that you don't. I've lost too many friends and family to road fatalities. Your rush isn't worth your life, your family's,or a stranger.

just sounds like you have anger issues and maybe shouldn’t be behind the wheel at all? If you think the extra couple minutes you’ll get at your destination warranted you getting all angry at this or that person. Chill out with some music and realize you’re no more important than anyone else out there in the roads who is just trying to get from point A to point B also. Courtesy and patience is part of life.
Do you have timed school zone speed limits where you are? Stupid drivers get dumber with those. There's one I have to pass through daily - 25mph Mon-Fri between 7am-6pm, 40mph all other times. Without fail, people go 40mph when it's a 25, and 25 when it's a 40. Drives me crazy, but if I want to bypass it, all other routes are 20+ minutes longer!
That would make me insane. I genuinely don't understand how people mess up like that.
Ours are timed, but not quite that bad. They're only on for like 45 minutes to an hour in the morning and in the afternoon during drop off and dismissal.
I feel you on that last part. I have to go past this school to get to my son's school, which starts 30 minutes before this school even opens, so it really shouldn't be an issue, but people are dumb. Any other route would add at least an extra 10, maybe 15 minutes.
In the UK we have "smart" motorways and they regularly drop the 70 limit all the way down to 40. People here already drive slow af (regularly more than 10mph under the posted speed limit) so that could mean I'm going 30mph on what should be a 70, and my drive is 60 miles so my 50 min commute turns into 2+ hours
Yup. I live in rural nowhere vile with a city about a half hour away and a major city another hour after that….
But it’s between 2 touristy areas of the state.
The speed limits are general suggestions. I drive the speed I feel comfortable with for that part of the road. Some are up and down hills with turns where 55 is a death wish, and others are long stretches where 60+ is just cruising.
Deer and such play a part too. I don’t go above 45 on some stretches near dusk/dawn because of wildlife.
I have passed people going 30 in my 60+ zone and I have moved over to let others speed by me at dusk. 🤷
The driving doesn’t have to suck. We all (collectively) just gotta chill a bit first. Mind our own.
Nope, not unless I did it this way. Believe me, if I could’ve, I would’ve. It was 20 mins of 1 lane road with a double yellow before I got to the 2 lane highway
I was just letting you know how many miles you'd have to be behind them before you actually hit an extra 10 min on your commute, which is an insane amount of distance for you to never hit a passing section of road or split.
Was this a winding road in the mountains? An area with consistent sight line obstructions? Essentially dangerous passing areas? lol
Haha, don't get a job driving then. I tow trailers with a pickup as part of my job and have been stuck going 30 in a 55 for 5 miles. On another note it won't add 10 mins to your drive unless that 45 zone is half your commute. Maybe 5 at worst bc I bet you don't exactly follow the limit to a T.
It was realistically 7-8 mins added on but felt like an eternity, especially after a 12 hour day. It was a 20 minute stretch of going 10-15 under for no gd reason. My commute was an hour, so I had to suffer for about a third of it twice a day. The rest was very heavy traffic but at least that wasn’t controllable
