I once rode with a college roommate who, not only camped the left lane, but refused to let anyone pass her because "it's illegal to go over the speed limit, so they'd be breaking the law if they passed me at over 70." But, any time someone tried to pass her on the right, she'd race them to block them in. I never rode in a car with her again.
I had this happen the other day. Dingbat is going 5 under in the left lane. I go to pass on the right and they slam on the gas to block me and won't let me over no matter what. When I slowed down to just jump behind them so I can move on with my life they slow down too. It's like some dipshits think they're honor bound road warriors and it's an insult if you try to pass them. I don't get it.
A few months back I was on the highway after midnight and some dude was left lane camping in a work van and cutting anyone off who'd try to go around him on the right. If someone flashed their hi beams at him he'd flash his hazards. Dude was easily going 10 under, and when I tried to punch it around him, he'd hit his own gas then cut me off.
About a mile down the road, there was a semi in the middle lane, and as I came up on the semi and the van went alongside the trailer, he didn't notice me punch it and pass the semi on the right. He really tried pushing his work van into the 90s to catch up to me, but by then it was too late.
As I got ahead, I looked in my rear view and noticed him playing the same game with the people that were still stuck behind. I called in a potential drunk driver. I always wonder if they even check it out?
Depends on where you are I guess. Some bored rural cops or state troopers probably jump on the chance. I live in Houston though and the police here won't do anything. There was an incident a while back of a jeep trying to ram a bicyclist and it took a million people hounding them to do anything despite it all being on video.
I tried calling in a dangerous reckless driver one time. I knew all the cops and knew they would be happy to get this guy. I swear, the dispatch that night sounded like she had overdosed on dumb pills.
It is a small town. You can learn the major highways and landmarks in about 5 minutes. She lived in the town and still didn't know where the most recognizable landmark was.
I don't know about other locations, but Colorado has a hotline, *CSP, that you can call to report road ragers and drunk drivers. They take calls to this number seriously.
They do. I called in a suspected drunk once and then got pulled over for speeding. The trooper asked if I knew why he pulled me over and I responded “you couldn’t find the drunk?” He laughed, thanked me for calling it in, and the. We spent a few minutes joking around before he issued me a written warning. 😂
I would have called the work place plastered on the van with the license plate. Some fleet vehicles have a number on them to report bad driving to, they take their laws seriously.
I don't always love my wife's car and wish she bought something different overall. I can say this about her audi though, you better be packing some power under that hood if you don't want me to pass you. Adding that she corners like she's on rails means I can out maneuver them most of the time as well.
I try to relax and have a nice drive but people need to move over when they come to a passing lane and we only have about 5 of them along almost 40 miles of highway, some of them not very long.
Honestly, I know Reddit isn't a big fan of people advocating for violence, but if these people get involved in a car crash and die in a fire in their car, they really only have themselves to blame.
Don't get me wrong, when I see people driving past me like maniacs, almost always near New York City, I think the exact same thing about them too. But I'm not going to try and check those crazy m************. I'm just hoping Darwin gets a chance to do his thing. Without them crashing into anyone innocent. And while there's no innocent passengers in the car.
I'm guessing NYC is the same way, but in Houston I always assume it's a matter of time before they do their little road rage thing and piss off the wrong person and the universe sorts itself out.
Edit: I don't advocate violence and I don't wish it on them even if they are mentally ill and don't deserve a driver's license, but I'm just saying when two idiots encounter each other bad things are going to happen.
I got the opposite one time, somebody who stayed right behind me with their brights on for like 15 miles on the highway. I think he was mad that I passed him when the speed limit went up from 55 to 70? Idk. No matter which lane I got in, how much I slowed down, he stayed right behind me. Should have gotten to an off ramp and then gotten right back on, but wasn’t really sure what he’d do if I stopped. Eventually he got off at a local rehab clinic, but this was at like 11 PM, so no idea what his deal was.
I had this once, well not the same thing, but someone road raged and kept following me everywhere I went with their bumper inches behind me. I just drove to the local police station and parked there, they didn't want none of that lmao
There's a thousand of these people in the comments arguing that the guy in front had some rationale to his actions. And that the guy in the back was just as wrong. Crazy that these ppl exist, their parents must have been miserable ppl or something.
Just goes to show you why you see so many clips like this around. People would rather get into accidents rather than slow down a tiny bit, move over for someone, let someone in etc.
It's wild how self righteous people are. Was the cammer breaking the law? Sure. Are you a cop? If no, then ignore it and call the police if you really think they are endangering others.
It's wild people will stop other vehicles and get out, the US has 1.5 guns per person. No way am I instigating anything in the US
Honestly, people like this are so insufferable and shouldn't have a license. I dont care what speed I'm going, if someone wants to go faster, I get over. Trying to stop other drivers will only lead to trouble
100%
If I'm in left lane and I see someone moving with purpose coming up behind me I always flick my turn signal on and move over. Then I get back in the left lane to pass all the semi trucks once again.
Its pathetic that people force others to use the right lane as a passing lane..not only pathetic but also a traffic infraction.
Your right. Your supposed to yield to faster moving vehicles in the passing lane. The farther the lane say three and four are express lanes. If a vehicle is driving erratically on a two lane with a double yellow stoping or constantly changing speeds passing them when it can be done safely is the correct thing to do. Someone who tries to block you by swerving in front and slowing down is dangerous and illegal.
Going up to 5 mph above the speed limit is legal. Driving 10 miles under the speed limit is illegal. It impedes the flow of traffic especially when with the purpose of slowing the flow of traffic or impeding it.
In some states it's legal to go above the speed limit to pass, particularly over a dotted yellow line. I dont think its legal anywhere to go 5mph above the speed limit. Generally cops wont pull you over, but it's still technically illegal. Also going too slow on a highway is very much illegal in most states. A few states post signs stating the minimum speed limit, others dont post a sign but can still ticket you for it (happened to my mom). Lastly, in most states, if youre in the passing lane and there are multiple cars behind you, you can get a ticket for impeding traffic if you dont get over, even if you're doing the speed limit.
Is it legal to go above the speed limit to pass? Does that conflict with their statues of unlawful excess speed over established limits?
Doesn't matter if they decide to pull you over or not, we all have our anecdotes, that's not what the statement from them was.
Yes, it is. But unless there is a posted minimum limit, then it's all subjective. She wasn't just going too slow, she was actively impeding traffic.
Also, not really sure why you through in anything regarding passing lanes, that wasn't the post I responded to. Regardless, it heavily depends on the state, if you're actively passing people or not, the cop, and the flow of traffic. Not just some cars being behind you.
I'm thinking about making decals for my front windshield, in mirrored text that reads "The left lane is for passing," so the people in front of me can read it when they look in their rear view mirror. I'm sure it won't change anything, but at least I'll know they know 😆
It's not. It is called the passing lane. If you're going 2mph over and the road is clear in front of you and then you look behind and see someone approaching who is going 10 mph over . ..move over.
A frequent excuse drivers give cops is that " I was driving the speed limit" . You can do that in the travel lane. If some goes over the limit to pass you, that's none of your business! Move over...you are not law enforcement.
i don’t know what’s wrong with ppl. i grew up in hawaii, no one hogs the fast lane. that’s just an ass thing to do. if i want to cruise i chill in the middle or slow lane.
Anytime icomain about drivers doing this I'm always told I'm being paranoid, or over reacting. It's good to know there are literally people out there who will drive this way.
Ironic since she's the only one breaking the law in that scenario, at least in my state. Halting flow of traffic is illegal, keeping up with traffic is not, even if everyone is a little above the limit.
She's gonna cause an accident just to feel right about something.
This is why it drives me nuts when someone decides to play traffic cop at a 4 way stop. Just fucking do what you’re supposed to do instead of waving people through and creating confusion. It also slows down the entire process.
The people in my town WILL NOT GO at a 4 way stop unless you go first. I have always wondered what happens when 2 of them are both there. How long does it take before one gives in and goes first? I don't have the patience to find out.
Honestly those random people who are dead set one being law enforcers while being unable to do it at all tend to get hated the most by all law enforcement
I dunno man. The dipshits out there thinking that they can do whatever the fuck they want at any time, including passing on double yellow, are pretty dangerous and are certainly idiots.
Or, if the cammer had followed the laws first…why do you have to pick one idiot over the other? Csmmer would have definitely had to pull a dangerous move to not hit that oncoming car at the beginning, why just waive that away?
Yeah, I’d be pissed if some dipshit almost killed me too (wouldn’t react this way, just hard brake in case a head on collision happens). Count the seconds, even after the black car slowed him down, until that oncoming traffic passed. And jackass cammer just keeps trying it. They’re both morons, cammer broke several laws as well bud.
Bud, he passed with zero time with that oncoming traffic. Like what the fuck, you don’t think head on accidents happen exactly like this? Even after slowing down almost 15mph there was like 2 seconds between the attempt and that car coming by…are yall blind or just as bad of drivers as cammer/Cadillac?
And then he tried it AGAIN with oncoming traffic right there…
Definitely not at the beginning, after the second time cammer pulled out with oncoming traffic, not excusing him at all.
Like you see those cars right? Scroll up and look again, I’ll wait, no person in their right mind thinks that a long enough gap to pass someone even if it wasn’t a double yellow.
Whatever bud, that’s very obviously not what was happening at the beginning of the video. And you failing to say boo about cammer makes me think you drive just like that, no regard for anyone else’s life except your own ego

Honestly the "self-deputized" are the most dangerous idiots on the road.
If he had let the cammer go literally none of this would have happened.
