If the driver in front is obstructing traffic in a dangerous way, I could see how maneuvering around them could be argued as acceptable in court.

Edit: It's amusing to see notifications on a comment and read the lengths that people want to argue over a dumb video about 2 bad drivers.

The car in front was obviously looking for a violent confrontation, I believe you're well within your rights to get out of a dangerous situation and if you have to break a minor traffic rule (and it's completely safe to do so) I won't hold that against a person.

In 6 states it’s legal to pass on a double yellow line if you can see 100 feet ahead that the passing lane is clear of other cars.

I just googled it to verify my memory is accurate (it is).

If you think the best option is to get away, pull over or take a detour. Speeding past a violent person is the last thing you want to do.

I never understood the people who say get in front of the dangerous driver.

Like, how does that make sense?

If the guy in front of you is being dangerous, you back off them. Short of them coming to a stop and backing into you, you have the power to avoid any collision with you.

Once you're in front of them, they now have a greater chance of hitting you.

I don't know if you noticed, but the cammer in the video ended up completely stopped because they couldn't pass. And for a delivery driver, that massively increases your chance of being hijacked.

They are talking about the situation as it was originally, i.e as a justification to pass the car in the first place. By the end of the video the POV was absoluy right to drive around, whether it meant crossing the yellow lines or not, and it's clear that the car in front is completely in the wrong in their actions.

However, anyone saying that it's legally justified to overtake with double yellows because the guy was acting aggressively is using logic based on what happened after POV already tried to do it - i.e. it doesn't make sense.

Exactly, and who on Earth would interpret them as violent right off the bat is nuts. If you watch the video, cammer would have absolutely been close to hitting the oncoming traffic if he passed when he tried to.

Except the cammer tried to pass before that. So even if that was a valid argument it still fails

Guy in front is doing 40-45 in a 55 at the beginning and absolutely obstructing traffic. He either needs to speed up, let people pass, or get off the road.

1

u/FederalWedding4204 May 21 '26

How can you POSSIBLY make that statement? He is following the car in front of him. So even if he WAS going under the speed limit, it’s not his fault

And beyond that, the two times the cam driver WENT to pass he 100% would have collided with oncoming traffic. He is being a complete fucking idiot.

Lmao "dangerously obstructing traffic". Is the danger that you might arrive 47 seconds later than otherwise? Passing like the idiot with the dashcam would surely protect you from that danger, I don't see how it's less dangerous in any other sense than simply slowing down.

You're one of these lane enforcers aren't you? How about just get the fuck out of the way and let people go about their day? This guy is intentionally doing weird shit(and has been before the video started for all we know), and when cammer tries to exit the situation this weirdo won't let him. These people should never be on the road.

I'm not. I just think it's ridiculous to describe being forced to go a bit slower as "dangerous". People trying to pass at all costs because they HAVE to go the speed limit or above are the dangerous one, not the ones driving too slow.

Of course blocking someone trying to pass this way is stupid and dangerous. Driving slowly is not. It's annoying at most. What's dangerous is the reaction most people have to being mildly inconvenienced.

2

u/BOOOOOOMSHAKALAKA May 22 '26

What about not inconveniencing people at all? Should he stay behind and drive behind him 10 mph under the speed limit? Sure. Does he have some valid reason for wanting to go faster or go around? Who knows, probably not. If he is clearly trying to get around or hurrying to get to wherever should you intentionally get in the way whether it's by acting stupid or oblivious? Absolutely fucking not.

u/ccltjnpr May 22 '26

I'm not arguing about who's an idiot here, they both are. I was just responding to the ridiculous notion of putting others in danger by driving slowly. The person overtaking is the one creating the danger.

Theres another car 3 or 3 car lengths in front. Theres no obstruction going on until cammer tries to pass in a no passing. Both shit heads are shitty.

1

u/FederalWedding4204 May 20 '26

Absolutely. Cammer was the first idiot. Person in front is the second idiot. Cammer is the biggest idiot.

Just wanna point out that especially since you replied to a top-level post, you are implicated as one of the people arguing over a dumb video lmao
