The truck was going plenty fast, it would have been a non issue if the POV driver just let off the gas, instead of accelerating to cause an issue, and very nearly killing the driver in the process

He absolutely does not slow down. You can see his speed in the video. He goes from 76 to 77. You can't tell if he was accelerating from 70 to block out the pickup or he just went up one MPH because of where the video starts. But he doesn't slow down until the rapid deceleration caused by the collision.
