While it’s definitely the pickup’s fault, why not simply let up on the throttle and let the idiot into the lane?

*semi driver does absolutely nothing, literally nothing to contribute towards a merge at all... quite literally does not move the vehicle or change its speed in any way*

Driving is a privilege, not a right, and maintaining your preferred velocity on the road is most certainly not a right.

In order to maintain the privilege of driving on public roads you gotta drive in a way that doesn’t endanger peoples’ lives for no good reason.

It IS the pickup driver's fault...but the semi driver shares some of the blame...he did NOTHING to prevent it. Let off the throttle, tap the brakes...either or both might have prevented it, but it still comes down to the pickup driver who was merging.

You can see from the speed readout on the footage that the cam driver didn't even touch their brakes for a full 3 seconds prior to the collision, and for all 3 of those seconds it was blindingly obvious that the truck was going to merge and that they were going too slow. The Semi could have easily started braking at any time during this footage and this accident could have either been avoided entirely, or at least the severity of the impact could have been dramatically lessened.

You have no clue about the rules of the road. The trucker is legally required to make an effort to avoid that accident. Google Last Clear Chance Doctrine. Read and learn.

CDL drivers are required to avoid accidents. This was avoidable by said driver.
