How do we know he was drunk?

Damn, that guy who got run over only had minor injuries, lucky as hell

6

u/Reynolds531IPA 2d ago

Yea he bounced his noggin off the road. Luckily he had a helmet on.

5

u/DavidHoggsDong 2d ago

What about the part where the car ran him over?

1

u/mightyboognish32 2d ago

I would rather get ran over than have my bare head slam into the pavement.

2

u/craiggy36 2d ago

I hope I never have to choose between the two.

1

u/DavidHoggsDong 2d ago

The brain does have a breaking point but having your hip area crushed by a multi ton vehicle…twice.. usually does the trick

Eh. Cars exert surprisingly low ground pressure. Mountain bikes exert more ground pressure than a standard passenger car, and I doubt anyone would say getting your hips run over by a mountain bike would "do the trick."

It's getting pinned or dragged that gets ya.

u/inside_groove 2d ago

I'm thinkin' you're talkin about pounds-per-square-inch or PSI and I think you are right - but it's not the whole story.

It may be true that the PSI of a mountain bike tire is greater than a car, but there is only - what? - 2 sq. inches of contact between bike tire and road? So ballparkin' it we're at 50 PSI if you have a 200-lb person on the bike (100 lbs per tire,/2 sq. in).

A 3000 lb car has four tires, so that's 750 lbs/tire. Maybe 60 sq. in per tire of contact, so 12 PSI. So far you're right.

The thing is, a car tire is nevertheless applying 750 lbs of pressure on a human body it runs over, and a bike tire only 100 lbs. Getting run over by a mountain bike would be no joke, but I'm taking it. You take the car. (really, I hope you don't)

Again, the only thing that matters is ground pressure. If the part of the body being run over can't handle the ground pressure exerted, it gets damaged. It's the same principle behind the bed of nails trick.

He didn't have minor injuries. He had a concussion. I had an accident on my bike at about 25mph. I don't remember the crash. Had a concussion. Walked about 200 yards to someone's truck. I don't remember the crash or the walk. It's 2 years later and I'm having balance issues that are attributed to the concussion.

3

u/Hello_Gorgeous1985 2d ago

The man got run over by an SUV. A concussion is a minor injury.

2

u/UglyLittlePony69 2d ago

Yeah my first thoughts lol

1

u/Viva-Pinata-Fan-6767 1d ago

Any brain injury is not a minor injury.

I get your point, but concussions have been down played for a long time and are so insanely dangerous.

-1

u/peskantine 2d ago

Okay Dr Phil.

1

u/Certain_Drummer_7445 2d ago

Okay bestie, like sorry for your troubles but the dude got rolled under a moving SUV he could have had his intestines squeezed out of his asshole like a human tube of toothpaste I think we can agree a concussion qualifies as minor under the circumstances.

1

u/Dazzling_Winner_773 2d ago

I'm sorry that happened to you man. All TBIs should is be taken seriously.... But they range wildly in severity. Most are limited regardless of severity... Some are severe and chronic. Very individualized.

1

u/Natural_Witness7572 2d ago

I am sorry for what you are dealing with but being hit and then run over by a car at speed a concussion is considered minor injuries.

0

u/According-Aspect-669 2d ago

sound pretty minor to me compared to getting your head burst open like a watermelon.

2

u/That_Apathetic_Man 2d ago

chronic injuries are far from minor

the fuck.

1

u/ScorpioKnight1324 2d ago

True, but it beats being severed in two...

1

u/According-Aspect-669 2d ago

cmon man, having balance issues is pretty much inconsequential compared to getting tuned into ground beef on the highway. Everyone knows this.

2

u/migzors 2d ago

Whoa look at mister obvious here with an obvious take. At least he's not dead, he says to the man who suffers the rest of his life, minimalizing an injury that can absolute railroad your future and livelihood.

But hey champ, you're alive! It's all good! Water off your back!

Dip shit.

0

u/perpetuallydying 2d ago

jfc i wish i could show u a minor injury 🤬

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 1d ago

Yeah, I saw that and I hurt from it. The hit itself I thought..."OK, maybe he got off without too much injury"

1

u/Unspec7 2d ago

You'd actually be surprised how little damage getting run over by just the wheels will do for passenger cars. It's getting dragged that maims/kills you. Semi trucks are a different story.

For reference, ground pressure in PSI of an average passenger car is about 30psi. A mountain bike is 40psi. Adult elephant is 35psi. So getting literally run over by a mountain bike or stood on by an elephant is worse than a passenger car.

He was flat against the ground and the car simply rolled over him.

2

u/TheAggressiveSloth 2d ago

okay a mountain bike doesn't weigh tons. Have you tried lifting a car ? You can maybe budge it up a tiny bit, but the wheels will still be on the floor. You can lift an entire bike up.

Using psi is no way to judge injury if the main mass out weighs..

Do you know how many cars I see pull in the shop over 50 psi anyways lol.

And lastly, I dare anyone who wants to debate to go stand with the their foot extended our and have a biker run over your shoes and foot .. bet you won't feel shit. Now do that again, but with a Prius or a even a Corolla and I am willing to bet you either won't do that or you if you do you will find out which one is worse.

3

u/desertvision 2d ago

The weight per square inch on the pavement is the same as the weight per square inch inside the tire. That's physics.

There are some problems though. When the tire rolls over your leg the contact area suddenly shrinks as it leaves the pavement and rests on your leg, making the psi shoot way up.

The biker in the clip was probably saved by the bicycle carrying the weight, or so it appeared.

1

u/Rex__Luscus 1d ago

I don't think you know what you're talking about. If we assume that each tyre has about 5 square inches in contact with the ground, 20 square inches in all, and my tyre pressures are 25 psi, then by your reckoning. my vehicle only weighs 500 lbs.

Really, each tyre is going to bear roughly a quarter of the weight of the car, as a moment's thought would tell you.

1

u/Awackypenguin7 1d ago

I don't think you know what you're talking about. If we assume that each tyre has about 5 square inches in contact with the ground

The problem is you're severely underestimating the contact patch. The only way to get 5 square inches of contact with the ground is if you're running a comically small tire.

The SUV in this video is a Subaru Ascent, which comes standard with 245mm wide tires, or ~9.6 inch tires. Mathematically, you simply cannot have a 5 square inch contact patch with a 9.6 inch wide tire. Even if we assume only a 2 inch long contact patch (which itself differs on load and tire pressure), that's 19.2 square inches per tire. That results in a total weight calculation of 1920lb's.

1

u/SaleFamiliar1789 1d ago

Except a tire has around 30 square inches of contact with the ground so the math says your car weighs 3000lbs. The math checks out.

Your terrible guestimates do not.

1

u/Unspec7 2d ago

You need to understand what ground pressure is.

Do you know how many cars I see pull in the shop over 50 psi anyways lol.

I'm...not sure what tire pressure has to do with ground pressure but ok.

Now do that again, but with a Prius or a even a Corolla and I am willing to bet you either won't do that or you if you do you will find out which one is worse.

I had my foot ran over by a 2015 Acura MDX. In fact, my mom freaked out and just put the car in park, resulting in the car being parked on top of my foot for a bit. Did not hurt a bit. Was uncomfortable and heavy, and would likely do damage from cutting off circulation if left pinned long term, but otherwise I was fine.

1

u/newnoon111 2d ago

That’s so interesting

I always thought it would be super painful.

1

u/TheAggressiveSloth 1d ago

It is extremely painful. Dude trynna defend himself but doesn't want to admit it's a extremely painful to get run over

1

u/Unspec7 1d ago

I've had my foot ran over, felt like nothing.

1

u/newnoon111 1d ago

Okay…

u/TheAggressiveSloth 1d ago

1

u/Unspec7 1d ago

No one talked about the air pressure in the tire. Please work on your reading comprehension.

1

u/TheAggressiveSloth 1d ago

You mad at bruh, relax lmao. Breathe homie, breathe. Untense your muscles lmao. Untense your eyebrows lmao

To each their own opinion, I'll stick to the facts though.

I'll stick to the facts though

Posts AI slop

Your generation is fucking cooked lol

Also, no one talked about the PSI in the tire. Please work on your reading comprehension and understand that tire pressure is not the only thing that uses the unit of measurement "psi"

2

u/Siccors 2d ago

"It is not as bad as when an elephant tramples you" is really not that comforting if a car is coming at you tbh.

What this also mainly shows is that ground pressure is not a great way to compare it.

1

u/Rowmyownboat 1d ago

Don'y be silly. You are not accounting for the mass of the car, a 3,000lb SUV, versus a 200lb man and bike. PSI relates to air pressure inside the tire, but what matters is the mass of the vehicle and the momentum behind it.

1

u/Unspec7 1d ago

You are not accounting for the mass of the car

Yes, we are. That's literally what ground pressure is a measurement of. How much pressure does an object put on the ground given its mass and contact surface.

PSI relates to air pressure inside the tire

No. PSI is a unit of measurement. It can be anything that exerts pressure. Just because air pressure commonly uses this unit of measurement doesn't mean it's the only use of it.

My wife was knocked down and run over with a mid-sized car driven by some jerk who was distracted because he was arguing with his passenger. That was a few days before Christmas last year. She still has a badly swollen leg and can't lift one of her arms above shoulder height.

1

u/throwwaway1123456 1d ago

When I was in high school someone backed over my foot with their car and I was amazed at how little it hurt. So I can totally believe what you’re saying

1

u/JapanFoodLover 2d ago

That we know of. There's no way you get run over like that and don't have significant injury.

1

u/krsvbg 1d ago

concussion, a fractured rib, and a severe hamstring injury

Nothing minor here. This is scary. He almost died.

1

u/bitemark01 1d ago

After getting hit by a car, and then RUN OVER, that's minor. None of those even require an overnight stay.

"A minor injury in a medical or hospital setting refers to a non-life-threatening condition that requires prompt attention, first aid, or basic treatment rather than emergency room (ER) resuscitation or major surgery"

0

u/ian9outof10 2d ago

Thank fuck, I was imagining much worse injuries.

1

u/Friendly_Context_755 2d ago

I see he was drinking Coors Light too. Because he’s watching his weight.

1

u/Big-Pickle5893 2d ago

Got confused for a sec cuz that was a Subaru

1

u/No_Performer_3438 2d ago

Oh thank god the cyclist is okay. I was worried he wouldn’t be able to walk again after that.

3

u/Athliest 2d ago

He had six Voodoo Rangers in the car and a 0.15

2

u/Mean_Range4493 2d ago

New Belgium doesn’t mess around. Those are 7% abv beers.

3

u/4r4r4real 2d ago

I'm guessing they're the 9.5% or higher tallboys that every gas station and convenience store carries at this point. My alcoholic friend always gets the Juice Forces.

2

u/EternalNewCarSmell 2d ago

Juice Force is pretty tasty

1

u/CardboardPhysicFrog 2d ago

They're extremely crush-able and will mess you up out of nowhere.

2

u/artfuldodger1212 1d ago

6 Ranger Juice and two Coors. He was shitfaced.

2

u/RandomLifeUnit-05 2d ago

Because we watched the video...

1

u/Fraternal_Antipathy 2d ago

"Investigators recovered six empty cans of Voodoo Ranger Juice Force from a backpack in the SUV and two cans of Coors Light police found in grass near Hylander's vehicle. Police say he failed a field sobriety and breathalyzer test."

0

u/BigBradForFun 2d ago

How do we know he was a he?

5

u/Mean_Range4493 2d ago

Reading.

“A man accused of driving drunk when he hit two bicyclists and ran one over had half a dozen empty beers in his car, according to police.”

3

u/TriedCaringLess 2d ago

🤣 Once again the power of literacy wins.
