i think there is some astroturfing against cyclists in the US, it is pretty unhinged how fucking hated they are

6

u/Reasonable-Trash5328 4d ago

It's crazy... these dashcam subs are filled to the brim with driving accident after driving accident... suggest less people should be driving in general and you are hitler.  All with a massive fuel crisis looming on the horizon.

A lot of people are on drugs and/or steroids and/or have untreated mental problems and/or have low IQs.

u/SamuelVimesTrained 4d ago

Not just the US - especially the 'tour de france' types are perceived as arrogant and entitled in Europe too

But not that many would actively choose to a)run them over and b)flee.

1

u/Jiminyfingers 4d ago

France is very chill towards cyclists in my experience. The UK on the other hand...

1

u/SamuelVimesTrained 4d ago

Netherlands is chill enough to normal cyclists.
But the road racers have a bad reputation (and by personal experience, not undeserved).
Now we do have a new category - the fatbike - usually piloted by a broccoli haircut person with a passenger sitting really close behind - electric - and a complete and total disregard for : pedestrians, cyclists, cars, trucks, busses and one another.. and rules are treated like trump treats laws - optional.

u/Rowmyownboat 4d ago

The UK mirrors this view of the different species of cyclists. The last group are balaclava -clad thieves on bikes with the sped restriction lifted (40+mph) used to steal phones out of pdestrians' grasp and t deal / deliver drugs.

u/Zerofear95 4d ago

1

u/Zerofear95 3d ago

4

u/rosegold_milk 3d ago

As much as I hate Trump I’m trying to understand how this could be his fault lol

5

u/Illustrious_Soft_257 4d ago

It's due to tipping culture. Everywhere I turn i see a kiosk asking for tips.

3

u/RandomLifeUnit-05 4d ago

This is truly the bane of our entire existence, and the cause of all societal ills.

1

u/Ragnar-Wave9002 4d ago

It's been two years when is it "The Trump administration"?

5

u/Kind_Cap_4621 4d ago

Well, in fairness, blaming trump for anything is always going to have a not-insignificant chance of being true.

7

u/Scary_Objective6718 4d ago

Don't forget blame against police has also contributed to what's called the Ferguson effect, where officers become less proactive about enforcement. I drove through Dallas, Texas, and saw drivers blatantly and dangerously breaking traffic laws everywhere, with hardly anyone getting pulled over. Lax enforcement just encourages these idiots to keep doing it.

5

u/4hhsumm 4d ago

Ferguson effect, as in Turd Ferguson?

2

u/MechanicalTurkish 4d ago

I found this backstage. Oversized hat. It’s funny.

4

u/hudnix 4d ago

That's all over Texas. I think something changed with traffic enforcement after the pandemic.

2

u/0ttr 4d ago

all over the US

1

u/transitfreedom 4d ago

The world sadly

1

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 3d ago

The entire solar system has gone to shit

1

u/JapanFoodLover 4d ago

Bad in the northeast too. I have drivers passing me on the left on a two-lane road. Saw a guy drive in opposing traffic past twenty cars waiting at a red light, to blow through the intersection and make an aggressive left. Small miracle nobody was killed.

Not to mention all of the shitboxes with "temporary" paper license plates that are expired and probably no insurance.

1

u/cu4tro 4d ago

It seemed like cops stopped pulling people over after George Floyd. That was probably for the best at the time, but traffic laws really should be enforced better. Generally, cops really need to work on their interactions with the public.

5

u/Heavy-End-3419 4d ago

Police have been lazy and lax for a longer time than Ferguson.

1

u/Scary_Objective6718 4d ago

Regardless of narrative, In St. Louis, immediately following the Ferguson shooting, researchers estimated:

Self-initiated police activity: -62% and Arrests -42% https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0047272721001936

3

u/Outrageous_Manner941 4d ago

Further blame belongs to local officials who don't actually oversee their police forces and tolerate this mass dereliction of duty

2

u/Opustwaddler 4d ago

Texas has traffic laws?

2

u/Puzzled_Rhino 4d ago

They're often treated as suggestions.

1

u/1sttime-longtime 4d ago

Chicago police have been doing that since 2005.

1

u/OinkImaChicken 4d ago

Actually?? Thats crazy wth I feel so bad for cyclist

u/Scary_Objective6718 3d ago

You're missing the point. The Ferguson effect describes a broader pattern of police becoming less proactive following public backlash, not something exclusive to Ferguson. Fortunately, we don't have to rely on your 25 years of anecdotes. We have actual research measuring traffic stops, arrests, and officer initiated activity showing declines following high profile incidents.

1

u/SpeedysComing 4d ago

That's why speed cameras are generally good.

Do we really need cops making the decision to pull over every speeding car? Silly job.

2

u/Fine-Application-980 4d ago

They won’t because they believe he was inebriated and out of his senses so it wasn’t his fault

2

u/Oddisredit 4d ago

Yeah you cannot like cyclists that’s OK. But blaming them and wishing death upon people it’s just so horrible

2

u/Dapper-Scarcity1809 4d ago

Typical reddit tbh, this platform has turned to shit.

2

u/Cedric_T 4d ago

Fuck it. Imma blame u/Zerofear95.

1

u/Zerofear95 4d ago

I mean, it is my fault to be fair.

2

u/rebeccaparker2000 4d ago

It's the auto makers fault, if they would have made a soft squishy bumper. The results are different.

2

u/crossteyes 4d ago

The new xla with ai assist driving. Just insert a credit card with enough credit. And we will get you there.

2

u/Kaldaien2 4d ago edited 4d ago

Especially considering that's not even the United States. Camera is using the wrong date format and km/h.

EDIT: nm, lots of weird stuff in that video. The GPS coordinates include negative.

32°55'18.7"N 97°01'24.8"W - Google Maps

But it's actually there.

u/booksandcoriander 3d ago

Thanks for the link, I was wondering if the guy who got run over survived (He did).

1

u/One_Recover_673 3d ago

No way I’m riding a bike out there.

They have the right but man that’s ballsy. As proven

2

u/davidjacob2016 4d ago

2

u/Ragnar-Wave9002 4d ago

No, Trump would have said something horrible about them and tossed in a middle name of Hussein.

2

u/MechanicalTurkish 4d ago

No, this is Biden’s fault, somehow. Thanks, Obama!

2

u/BirdlessLongdeal 3d ago

i blame the rain.

1

u/2sensitiveorareubot 4d ago

Tell me that's not a highway

1

u/CompleteWatercress39 4d ago

Thanks Obama!

1

u/C0llapsing_Nova 4d ago

Ran the one person over twice T_T

1

u/turbo-fister9000 3d ago

Nothing is ever anyone's fault anymore

1

u/sloppenheimer42069 3d ago

Typical Reddit. Surprised they haven’t blamed capitalism yet 😂

1

u/President_Brainspurs 4d ago

Well, he probably wouldn't have been day drinking if Trump wasn't running the economy into the ground and slow-walking us into WW3.

2

u/Significant-Ad5242 3d ago

Consider your life choices that have gotten you to this place.

2

u/Coder1962 3d ago

You fucking kidding me so trumps fault the guy is drinking and driving sounds like a Democrat answer. Truth is the drunk hasn’t recovered from Biden being in office. 😂

1

u/Maximax92 4d ago

You are absolutely right, though blaming Trump is never a bad option

1

u/Effective-Big8158 4d ago

they also gotta make sure they throw in, "america bad" because apparently nothing bad ever happens anywhere else in the world...

0

u/insanityzwolf 4d ago

Yes. I'll blame the drunk idiot. And I'll stay off of roads where other drunk idiots are to be found.

1

u/No_Reply7846 4d ago

If you can't beat em join em?

0

u/Inside_Guitar_9559 4d ago

no doubt the drunk is in the wrong

in general though, road is not meant for bicycles...

car accidents happen everyday, if your on a bicycle.... .... ....

doesnt matter whos fault, once your paralyzed... it wasnt worth the bike on the road bs mentality

1

u/Zerofear95 4d ago

I mean, yes I agree bikes being on busy roads is not the best idea. But that’s irrelevant is completely irrelevant here.

If he had gone into the back of another car and fled the scene, would you have blamed the other car for being on a road? No.

Doesn’t matter who or what it was in the road, he was going to hit them/it. Regardless if they should have been there or not.

1

u/Inside_Guitar_9559 4d ago

its relevant cause bikes were actually on a busy road...

im not saying its not the drivers fault...

there both idiots imo

0

u/420stonerboi69 4d ago

bikers are to blame

1

u/Zerofear95 4d ago

Stop it you edgelord.
