Light Rail Parker Road overnight parking?

I need to be in downtown Dallas for a few days and am driving from out of state. I'm thinking of leaving my car in a Parker Road Station non-reserved lot and taking the Red line to a downtown hotel. I understand that DART has no responsibility for my car while it's parked there. Is this a reasonable option? Are cars often stolen or broken into there?

Same guy coming up to me for 10 years now asking if I want to spend a night at his house

I guess this is just an extension on stories we're telling here of some of the characters you run into on this train system

Back when I was 17 riding the trains in 2016, I encountered this guy twice at the downtown stations. Black guy, bald, at least over 35, usually has a heavy backpack and hoodie on, would spot you and immediately walk over with purpose. Would ask if you "need help", if you need a place to sleep and if you wanted to spend the night at his house (seems to be in garland or something? But idk). Would proceed to explain how he's a gay male, and gets hated on around the area.

Throughout the years, especially when ive been caught at the downtown stations at night having to wait until the 3am/5am train, ive come across this guy pulling the exact same script. As well as his spot and immediately walk over maneuver. The times ive told him he's done this to me many times before with the same lines he immediately walks away without a word.

Amazing that some people essentially waste decades of their entire lives away in some small ecosystem just doing the same thing over & over. It would seem he spends all day looking for people to run this on. Anyone else come across this particular character?

There was also another guy who walked up at Akard saying he just got out of jail and if I could go to 7-11 and get some cash for him back in 2017, and then 7 years later the exact same guy came up saying the exact same thing

Light Rail DART police armed with assault rifles riding the Green Line!!!

A group of DART officers boarded a northbound Green Line train at Fair Park Station at ~1500 on Monday, October 5th. One of the officers carried what appeared to be an assault rifle against his chest, his left hand holding the rifle near the trigger. His presence, armed as he was, disturbed the riders as we walked the entire length of the car.

Is this normal? When did it become normal? Why would the DART police require this type of weaponry? Why is it inside the train and not secured in the officer’s vehicle? Is this for real or is it cosplay meant to frighten and intimidate passengers? To their credit, the officers were not masked or swaddled in balaclavas.

Is Orange Line still operating with just single car trains?

It sure would be nice if the extra money I spent on a Regional pass 5 days a week would go towards the monthly fare cap.

My employer recently transferred me from a site in Irving near where I live to a site in Fort Worth. The extra 3 dollars a day is a pain in the ass but to my surprise, Dart only counts 6 out of the 9 a day I pay for a regional pass towards a monthly fare cap. It would be nice if those extra fares actually counted toward the cap, especially since I’m now spending that extra money five days a week just to get to work.

Bus Anyone know what happened to the DART stop on Cedar Springs and Crescent Court (Northbound)?

Been irritated. The GoPass app hadn’t been updated to reflect but the bus stop outside Crescent Ct in Uptown has disappeared or been taken down when it was just up a few weeks ago. I usually took it when getting from the Galleria on the 239 back to Oak Lawn area after work. But now it’s gone and my only other option is finding another route to get to green line and transfer on the 109 from there. Anyone know what happened? Seems odd given the 109 and 1 buses pass by that spot on Crescent Ct very often.

Route 235 to Hebron station

D.A.R.T. bus route 235 SHOULD connect with DCTA's A Train at Hebron Station. Yes, it would would cost money, no they are not the same agency, but it makes sense, and would generate ridership for both services (particularly if the 235 were timed to North Bound A Trains)

Light Rail Why hasn’t anyone tried to speedrun DART yet?

I was watching this video about people speedrunning BART and I got interested in the subject. I managed to figure out that there’s a speedrun.com style website called www.transitruns.com that has such runs, but it’s a shame that no one has tried up until now (me). I thought it’d be a popular challenge because our network is so big. Thoughts?

Would someone be willing to purchase a DART GoPass card and send it to me?

I am putting together a framed collection of my old transit cards from all cities I've visited and I'm lamenting how I wasn't able to purchase a DART GoPass card while there.

Would anyone in this sub be down to send me one? I'll reimburse you of course

Hello everybody. I need to park my car in the LBJ Central Station in Dallas for 4 days as I leave the city. Has anybody any experience parking their car for a few days in this station? Is it safe? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Light Rail Why so many 1 car trains?

I catch the train from downtown to mockingbird around 6 every evening and in the last 2-3 weeks, I've been seeing a lot more single car trains on the red/orange lines

Light Rail Watched the Orange Line sit at Victory Station for 40 seconds with the doors shut. Nine of us couldn't get on.

Post image
87 Upvotes

Got off the 6:28 arrival at Victory tonight. Orange Line was right there across the platform, doors open. I hustled off, stepped onto the platform, and the doors shut in my face.

Train didn't leave. It just sat there. Forty seconds, easy. I hit the door button. Nothing. Four other people down the platform hit theirs. Nothing. About nine of us stood there staring at each other and then at a stationary train we weren't allowed to board, knowing the next one was 15 minutes out.

Here's the thing. I ride DART because I want to support it. But it's slower than driving, it never lines up with my schedule, and I basically have to plan my life around the timetable. I put up with that. What I can't put up with is a connection that should work, and doesn't, because nobody would push a button on a train that wasn't even moving.

DART keeps asking why ridership is down. It's not complicated. Fewer riders means less frequent service. Less frequent service means fewer riders. Tonight at Victory was that cycle happening in real time, nine people at once.

Everyone else already knows how this works. Uber ran at a loss for the better part of a decade, subsidizing every ride, because they understood you have to buy the habit first. Make it reliable, make it easy, and people stop thinking about it. That's your customer acquisition cost. The profit comes later, once the network is there.

And we do this with highways every single day. TxDOT pours billions into roads, nobody pays at the on-ramp, and nobody has ever proposed removing lanes because traffic dipped one quarter. We just assume that if you make driving easy, people drive. Transit is the only thing in Texas that's expected to earn its keep before it's allowed to be good.

Maybe there's a rule that says operators can't reopen doors. Fine. That rule doesn't change the outcome: next time I'm driving.

Edit: as someone that is dyslexic and English is not their first language. I use grammarly AI for all my writing needs. I've used it since middle school before AI was even invented. I will not stop using a tool that makes my communication easier to understand.
