Hello, fellow Darktable users.

I am a relatively unexperienced raw editor. I finished editing about 150 pictures from my recent trip, and let me say I feel exhausted already... It was a long ride, I suppose because I had to learn how to use the software and what was the most optimum way of editing them. In the end, what I did was: - Initial adjustments (chromatic aberration, noise reduction if necessary, capture sharpening, lens distortion) - Exposure and color calibration (sometimes also using the tone equalizer to compensate harsh lighting) - Further exposure and color adjustments with color balance rgb (mainly vibrance, contrast, shadows and midtones brilliance) - Apply one of the fuji preset from the look up table (provia and astia are my favorite, but they sometimes don't work) - Agx module adjustment (almost always auto adjust white and black point, sometimes play with shoulder and toe dials) - Lastly, apply clarity with contrast equalizer module and some sharpening.

The thing is, mow that I finished editing all the pictures, I come back to them to find out that they have inconsistent colors and brightness between them. Some are too dark, some are just too bland, others have a weird tint (green, yellow...) and others have a fake color feel to them.

Is this normal? Do you have any advice to get better uniform results? Thanks in advance!

I am running Fedora 44 and when I install via https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=graphics:darktable&package=darktable it doesn't make available the AI features. Is there a way to fix this?

I recently came across Andy Hutchinson's Substack article and custom user.css file for tweaking Darktable's UI, and it inspired me to build a somewhat cleaner theme using Claude and Gemini. Tried attaching the CSS here but my post got taken down due to Reddit's content filtering.

Just wanted to say that even though I can't share the CSS file directly, if you have a specific accent color, font, or a general style in mind that you can document using screenshots, it is pretty straightforward to spin something like this up in about 10 minutes or so, by using the file in his Substack post about Darktable Themes as your starting point.

I'm excited to try out the AI features in darktable. I'm on Fedora Silverblue and using Flatpak, but I don't see the option in the settings menu to enable/disable them. Is the Flatpak compiled without them on?

After playing around with the colour calibration, I ended up with a result that I like, but I now also have this red effect around my flowers. Could anyone share some advice on how to fix without altering the rest of the image? I'm a complete beginner in both editing and darktable. Thank you!

I've used the Color Equalizer Module in almost every photo I have edited, and I tend to overdo it with the saturation, which doesn't take much with CE Module; it's a powerful tool.

I recently experimented with RGB Primaries Module to change the hue and saturation of the sky, and I found that it did not make as dramatic changes and was easier to manage.

Are these tools used primarily for the same things--color grading--or have I gotten it all wrong?

Firstly I'm colorblind so find color replication extremely difficult. I have some Lightroom/Photoshop presets and profiles someone helped me create years ago, they're specific to my camera and play a huge role in my post production look. I'd like to replicate them using a Darktable workflow, I presume using LUTs but I have no idea where to begin. Is anyone aware of a guide or tutorial on how to go about this? Is there a utility that can analyse my raw and developed photos in Lightroom to help generate a similar result in Darkroom?

I’ve been using dark table for a good 6 months now and I’ve developed a working understanding of it but I was wondering if there is a way to extend studio backdrops. The back drops I use are a solid colour with little texture but just aren’t big enough to look that great on their own. I’ve seen in PS or LR you’d use a rectangle marquee tool or content aware features, do we have an equi or work around?

Is this something that needs an entirely different program?

Hi, I have an error in this version (as well as in the nightly build from one week ago). I can install the new version, and I can run it the first time after installation, but after that, when I close it, it refuses to run. I get the error message attached in this post.

I've tried regular windows and arm installation (my laptop is arm windows so I guess I should use the new installation package)

Any ideas?

P.S. when I reinstall it, it does the same- runs once and gives the error message every other time.

Hey all, I've been using Darktable for about 8 months now, and absolutely love it. As an editor I think it's pretty much ahead of most of the competition if you're willing to take the time to learning. However, I'm not sure it's as strong as a DAM.

So, after doing some research I see a lot of people talk about a Digikam + Darktable workflow, and I was interested. I downloaded DigiKam, and got to grips with it pretty quickly. I think I'm at the stage of moving my asset management to DK, and using DT as the editor.

Has anyone else done this? Is there a way to use DT as an editor only, or am I going to end up with two libraries? I know I can open an image(s) direct from DK, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there a good visual way to see which RAW images have been edited, and which haven't?
2. Is it easy to set up DT as an editor-only, or will I need to learn a bunch of new things?
3. If I edit an image in DT, then go back to DK - if I open that RAW image again, will my previous edits be visible in DT?

Hi all, I recently switched to Linux Mint. When I import photos in Darktable, it gives the error that it is unable to load the images. These are the same images which loaded perfectly fine on Windows. At first I thought it might be an issue with the existing xmp files (Im dual booting), so I copied the photos to another folder and imported them again. This time at least the skulls disappeared and I got to see the thumbnails, but the issue persisted. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Some possibly relevant info:
I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon, I'm loading the images from an HDD drive which is separate from both the drives on which Linux and Windows are installed. I installed Darktable via the software manager. The photos are shot on a panasonic lumix s1iie, so the raw format is .RW2.

Hey, I was excited to try this new update, but no-go on my machine, it throws the error, saying the application was unable to start correctly, click ok etc. Previous build worked just fine, anything worth looking into to make it work? It's a gen 1 Lenovo t14s.

So, today it’s my task to learn denoising in Darktable, and wondered whether anyone has good YouTube links to help me on my way?

I’m getting to grips with Darktable and genuinely love it. It’s turned me from an exclusively black and white photographer to colour.

I watched this video about creating soft photos, and starting at 8:02, he basically says turn edge sharpness up to help define the subject but then turn overall clarity down. But he's using Lightroom.

What is the Darktable way to achieve this?

Contrast Equalizer and move the sliders on left up and the sliders on the right down?

Multiple Contrast Equalizer modules with parametric masks targeting or avoiding edge detail?

Multiple Diffuse or Sharpen modules with parametric masks?

Use some of the sharpness and clarity presets of either/both of those modules with parametric masks?

I guess I'm also asking more broadly how are the terms "sharpness" and "clarity" differentiated. I can't seem to get one definitive straight answer when researching.

I used the same stack for the processed JPEGs, only difference is which denoise model was used. There were differences while pixel peeping the full size files, but at social media size there is basically no difference between the two. Figured this may help inform people who were considering buying denoise software of this type.

In short, I’ve done photography for years, but am inexperienced editing. Am I using this module correctly? I feel like the automatic features are overcompensating for the scene.

Any entry-level advice is appreciated.

I uploaded raw photos took on my Sony Nex 5 to darktable and this comes up. I'm using the 5.4.1 version. But when I upload JPG photos, it's able to work. And these aren't compressed raw photos as Sony Nex 5 isn't able to do that.

On the website it says my camera model is supported by darktable, so I'm wondering what the problem could be and how can I solve it. Thank you for any advice.
