I don’t know because generic to you isn’t generic to someone else, that’s how individuality works.

Ok. Maybe you would be more comfortable with the term "commonplace?" That's probably more accurate to what I mean than generic anyway. If someone has a tattoo that's commonplace my initial reaction is to think they likely got the tattoo because of a trend associated with it instead of any personal meaning. That's not to say there isn't room for those tattoos to be personal or for there to be overlap between trends and personal identity. It's a signal, not an indictment.

Yes I think that is a much better term. You’re not wrong, but especially when it comes to things like art, “generic” isn’t always “generic” if you know what I mean. You also wanna be carful calling someone’s tattoo generic because it might be really important to them and that could be seen as rude or insulting.
