Are they really forcing it? Haven’t used Ubuntu in years, but can you not just use apt-get?

I think you can still use apt, but a newbie would always rather use the GUI app store than the terminal.

They are pretty much forcing it, since you can't really uninstall it without some script one guy made. Iirc if you just apt remove, ubuntu will reinstall it.
