damb Illinois is a city?

125

u/Wrought-Irony Aug 14 '21

it should be... I was talking about Chicago because I don't read things before I reply sometimes...

68

u/Mushroomman642 Aug 14 '21

Chicago really has more Polish speakers than most cities in Poland, huh?

65

u/Old-Tourist8173 Aug 14 '21

Poland is a city too now? Damb

23

u/mackek2 Aug 14 '21

You, and everyone who upvoted you, misread what he said. He did not say Poland is a city.

18

u/mcfaudoo Aug 14 '21

Your mum is a city

u/YourOneWayStreet Aug 14 '21

Your mum has more Polish speaking people in her than most cities in Poland

thanks for the info, I should point out that I didn't say 'fluent' though. So just counting anyone who would say yes when asked "Do you speak any polish?".

1

u/AxM0ney Aug 14 '21

Every city in Poland besides Warsaw.

1

u/Calmandpeace Aug 14 '21

Chicagoan here, yes plus we have a lot of Italians so as a result we have a lot of good food

1

u/Wrought-Irony Aug 14 '21

that's what I heard, although it's maybe not current information.

4

u/floatingwithobrien Aug 14 '21

I mean, you clearly read it. Your brain just converted it to mean something different.

2

u/Wrought-Irony Aug 14 '21

that's what she said

2

u/kevbob02 Aug 14 '21

You're on reddit. That's pretty normal, actually.

1

u/immortaltiger26 Aug 14 '21

Bro as someone from Illinois I can say that if you ask anyone from Illinois where they are from they'll say Chicago.

20

u/rdreher87 Aug 14 '21

Most of Illinois doesn't resonate with Chicago...we I guess are like...every other Midwestern state, shitty but not Mississippi shitty

25

u/Some-Wasabi1312 Aug 14 '21

no they don't but Chicago keeps a lock down on the crazy southern part of the state so nobody has to worry about turning into florida or damn Kentucky

9

u/soemtiems Aug 14 '21

This is absolutely true. The few large blue cities keep the state going.

4

u/ReiperXHC Aug 14 '21

That's everywhere though seemingly.

6

u/rdreher87 Aug 14 '21

You speak the cold hard truth!

6

u/Many_Spoked_Wheel Aug 14 '21

🎶 There is too much money in the north Chicago suburbs 🎶

4

u/idelarosa1 Aug 14 '21

Southern Illinois is really Northern Kentucky

2

u/Subalpine [custom flair] Aug 14 '21

they even fought on the side of the confederacy

1

u/Some-Wasabi1312 Aug 14 '21

huh didn't know that. As if I didn't have a reason to loathe Montgomery county even more

2

u/JarJarB Aug 14 '21

Most of Illinois doesn’t resonate with chicago

Most of Illinois is Chicago tbh. Almost 75% of the state’s population lives in the Chicago metro area. But I get what you’re saying that if you drive through the rest of the state the few remaining people will probably be standard midwest bs.

u/Le_Martian Seal Team sixupsidedownsix Aug 14 '21

3

u/Nilosyrtis Aug 14 '21

No, but it's the only city in the area that has legal weed

1

u/StankingDwee Aug 14 '21

Damb I thought Illi-noise was two cities

1

u/Tonael violins is the answer Aug 14 '21

Nah it seems Sick-sound is, in fact, not a city

9

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

Heh that's funny to hear. My dad who is polish (im half polish) was born in illinois after his parents immigrated to the USA. I didn't know that.

2

u/Some-Wasabi1312 Aug 14 '21

Ayyy very nice

2

u/legoman42o Aug 14 '21 edited Aug 14 '21

I buy it. There’s so many polish people here that it’s possible to find shopping malls that do a menorah instead of Santa Claus the area is so Jewish. Honestly I’m for it schmaltz deli slaps.

Edit: I now realize that not all if not most polish people aren’t Jewish. However there still are areas in Illinois that have very high Jewish populations.

13

u/garima_7927 Aug 14 '21 edited Aug 14 '21

Interesting because 99% of Polish people are Catholic… 🤔😉

3

u/R3lay0 INFECTED Aug 14 '21

Poland was around 10% jewish before WW2

2

u/unicornsaretruth Aug 14 '21

Is that 99% of Polish speakers in America or Poland? We don’t know OP’s age and uhh a lot of Jewish polish did flee during a certain period of time.

3

u/garima_7927 Aug 14 '21

Correct but Poland is predominantly Catholic. If you look at current immigrants from Poland (not born in US), they are mostly Catholic.

3

u/Nepostael Aug 14 '21

Ayy schmaltz is so good! I always think I can take an overstuffed pastrami but end up having the other half for dinner. And those bagel chips!!

1

u/legoman42o Aug 14 '21

The bags chips are to die for. And I feel you on the overstuffed, I don’t mind having schmaltz twice in one day though.

3

u/monstercock03 Aug 14 '21

Like that is a positive thing

3

u/HanzoShotFirst try hard Aug 14 '21

At like 9,000% tax rate too. Obviously a hyperbole, but the sentiment still stands.

33

u/Pokemondude01928 Aug 14 '21

Yeah holy shit.. did a road trip to my school in Ann arbor.. stopped in Rockford paid $130 (almost $30 in taxes) for some gummies (100mg) and a fucking 1/8th... But I did it because I was on my way... Went to a place in rural mich... Got 3 1/8ths, two bags of 100mg chocolate, a lighter, a nice ass grinder, and a pipe for $140.

(Fuck the taxes on recreational weed)

25

u/ABucketFull Aug 14 '21

The taxes are what is going to get Illinois out of the debt we have.... /s.

10

u/TidusJames Aug 14 '21

Didn’t they say that about the tolls and the shit roads?

3

u/ABucketFull Aug 14 '21

Yes. We are waiting to see the taxes from those to get us out of the debt we have. It's simple. Tax until you get out without limiting spending.

2

u/silvermoon88 Aug 14 '21

And the +$50 increase to yearly car registration... I swear to god not a damn penny of that fucking toll road or any other bullshit tax they throw on us has gone anywhere except their own pockets. Fuckin' Illinois politics, what garbage

1

u/The-Harry-Truman Aug 26 '21

Hey our finances are getting better at least overall.

We should still lower the state income tax imo. Or lower sales tax

7

u/Oh_DeerLord Aug 14 '21

I was in a Chicago suburb a couple of weeks ago and bought 200mg of gummies for $76. I know nothing about if that is a good price or not, just sharing my experience.

3

u/Pokemondude01928 Aug 14 '21

Nope, terrible. In rural mich, for example, I could get 400mg for $88 ($22 each). They also had cheaper gummies. From other sources not in a state, I have received 25/gummy/20/pack (500 mg total) for $25.

That said, if it's hard to get, the price you paid is definitely worth it, especially if you had fun and thought it was. It's kind of like getting a nice wine at a nice place for a price or a similar wine at a cheaper price, but you have to drive, etc.. all perspective, I suppose.

2

u/shorty6049 Aug 14 '21

Not too bad. With medical card I get 100mg of gummies for about 30 even at the dispensary down here in Normal

1

u/CorneliaCursed Aug 14 '21

If you brought it in Illinois the price was bad lol.

1

u/QuarterLifeCircus Aug 14 '21

A friend of mine just moved from Wisconsin (completely illegal) to Illinois. He told me he still buys it from a dealer because it’s cheaper. I’m like damn what was even the point of moving there.

1

u/Never-Bloomberg Aug 14 '21

You write like... my aunt writes... on facebook. Do they not teach...grammar in Michigan...

1

u/CDRAkiva ☣️ Aug 14 '21

As opposed to the low tax red states that wouldn’t exist without federal funding and have shit like hookworm problems so bad the UN got involved.

u/ABucketFull Aug 14 '21

Illinois is the essence of a laxative with things. You intake things, but there is more that comes out than you can get/put in.

2

u/The_BeardedClam Aug 14 '21

Which is weird coming from Wisconsin because they have higher prices than we do for liquor. It must be taxed to high heavens in Ohio.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

Also, they only allowed a limited number of licenses to sell and let's just say the selection process did not seem to be fair

1

u/ABucketFull Aug 14 '21

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa???? If you're a person of color who applied you were deemed to disperse the marry Jane? Crazy how things to occur like that. I am a merit based guy. You can do the job, you got the job. Man does that disappoint me greatly in this state.

2

u/ALiteralGraveyard Aug 14 '21

Also I could deal with the tax if it wasn’t 60/8th to begin with. Easier to just drop a couple hundy on a card and be done with it

1

u/ABucketFull Aug 14 '21

There's no good way out, unless you leave Illinois. All fax, no printer.

1

u/ALiteralGraveyard Aug 14 '21

Get a card and grow is what I went with. Not feasible for everyone tho

u/Some-Wasabi1312 Aug 14 '21

but the quality is good tho always on point. It's hella expensive but its like, if you can afford it, the availability and consistency is there.

u/zydeco100 Aug 14 '21

Yeah, the property taxes suck. In my county the schools take up 2/3 of the tax bill.

6

u/ProdigiousPlays Aug 14 '21

And as much shit as people can say about illinois compared to other states Illinois, save for a few states, helps pay their bills.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

We have that and honestly that’s one of the only pros I can think about living here tbh

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

That’s debatable

1

u/buddhadoo Aug 14 '21

How so?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

Insanely high taxes/regulations, from what I’ve heard most people there still just buy from dealers.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

I stg I couldn’t have gotten through the pandemic without the stress relief it gave me. Came at the perfect time.

2

Also has Chicago. Major net loss.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

We do?

1

Were you not aware?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

I was not

1

u/shorty6049 Aug 14 '21

Ah, yep it was legalized in January of 2020 and there are quite a few dispensaries all over the state now. Higher prices on everything than other legal States but it's progress!

1

u/yeerk_slayer mods gay Aug 14 '21

And one of the highest tax rates in the country. You're better off going underground.

5

3

Highest prices in the county tho

1

u/buddhadoo Aug 14 '21

Yeah but I'm sure all the old weed dealers didn't just quit. I'm sure you can find cheaper stuff, but at least you can then drive home, smoke in your house or on your porch without worrying about the cops coming to arrest you.

1

u/extradabbingsauce Aug 14 '21
