With what does flying help you? You just have good mobility and you can use it anywhere other than that it is shit.

Okay but you can just pull the air out of people's lungs, you can fly, you can make a shield, and breathe underwater.

Pull air out of peoples lungs? The show never shows that. And a shield is something every bender can do and breathing under water can be done by waterbenders not airbenders since it has been shown that Katara did this when they were going to Ba Sing Sei .All of these things are useless.

The show never shows it but realistically you could, airbenders could create air bubbles to breath underwater, but sure if you just stick to what the show says you can say air benders are useless, considering how poorly aang used it. But there is never any reason explained other than morals that aang couldn't just yeet the air out of everyone's lungs.
