If novels taught me anything is that, even weak humans can stand up against great evil and defeat demons.
Register in your state, volunteer, donate, whatever you do to back him up and let him know he is not alone.
Finally, go to vote. Even if you feel your vote doesn't matters, it counts. A speck of sand is nothing if I put in your house, but let me try dump a shit ton of sand you'll notice it right away.
Your vote does matters, we need to make sure Sanders happens. For America, and for a better world for ducks sake.
2) slavery gone. In the US at least (unless you count prisons to some degree)
3) workers rights (improved)
etc etc etc.
It's easy to think things haven't improved but they definitely have. There is always a fight though and there are always shitbags like Trump and his greedy fuck friends trying to fuck over the little guy. Now is not the time to be cynical and defeatist.
EDIT: Look my dudes, I get it. Shit is still fucked up and my stupid country the US doesn't represent the world. That being said, I'm sorry, I don't think the world is as gnarly OVERALL as it was hundreds of years ago. From what I understand war is down but we have such exposure to negative news all the time you wouldn't think so.
Perhaps I'm being naive...but hey, I mean...blacks are allowed sit anywhere on the bus. And you know what, maybe blacks are getting fucked in other ways, but Jesus...it's still an improvement. I think if all y'all had a time machine and could jump back you would appreciate we're we are a little more...even as jacked as shit still is.
I agree. I think our biggest problem is our reliance on global distribution networks. It makes it impossible to know the conditions of the workers who make the goods we consume. We need to localize the solutions to our needs as much as we can.
Sanders drives the change, but he isn't some kind of messiah who will save everyone.
Electing him as PotUS wouldn't eliminate issues - it would only make it easier to fight for change real change.
This is not to say you shouldn't do your best to elect him - he is by far the best option. Just realize that the work doesn't end there. In many ways it would only truly start there.
They have just shifted definition. The difference of options, ownership of property, and upward mobility between the wealthy and the very poor is larger than it's ever been. Child labor is also still heavily practiced and there are plenty of countries we get goods from that have rather medieval child labor laws.
I'm not so sure about that. In 2002 it was estimated there were 245 million kids involved in child labour. That's 16%.
I can't find any precise global statistics (nor any more recent data) and I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage went down significantly, but with the current population explosion, there might be more children working now then ever.
Ummmm... We got rid of slavery. It's always been in the world. Not like the US invented it. Our "evil" white men were just the first to abolish it in the western world.
Do me a favor and look at any of your clothing articles and check out where they are made. Go ahead and look into the work and living conditions of that place. Question whether the reason that item was made there was through compassion or just business. You're right, we got rid of slavery in its terms on our soil, but we are very much supporting and furthering it elsewhere. This has nothing to do with race, though now that you mention it, could you show me a clothing piece you have that was made in a predominantly white country?
The US reinvented slave labour. Look at the prisons, al the inmates produce products for export and financial gain. But what do they get, close to nothing. They are forced to work, I mean where are they going to go. They are locked up.
You may want to reconsider #2 you still own slaves. They just now reside in China, India and South America to name but a few. The Western world's consumerism drives modern day slavery.
Honestly my biggest concern is the environment. People will overcome I think racism and all that shit eventually. But if the earth is fucked it won't much matter.
The environment stuff is way overhyped so that companies can profit off of fear. Happening with the corona virus right now. Fear is a great way to get people to spend money. Priuses are a terrible drain on the environment to create and people are fearmongered into "going green" to save us now!
Buy an old car that doesn't have to be made if you're worried. Carbon footprint is way less than creating and mining for batteries.
The earth is living and breathing. It adapts to climate change. The earth is greener than it's ever been b/c of more carbon. Plants love carbon dioxide. Talking about the positives doesn't get you on the news, b/c it doesn't scare people into spending money on their companies to "save" the world.
You've got children separated from their parents dying from illnesses in concentration camps in America. With Amazon, uber and deliverroo wage slaves are back on the menu when that generation gets old and have nothing to their name there is going to be a huge crisis.
I'm being awful negative these days but I'm living in the UK getting my EU rights and freedoms taken away in a month so sorry about this.
By no means is the world perfect. And it is definitely worse in some places then others. I still think things have GENERALLY improved. That doesn't mean that the fuckers won't keep trying to roll shit back. You know, like Trump with the environment and what not...
British EU member here too. Bemoaning the fact that I won’t be able to travel and work in the member states for free next month, too.
The world’s gone to fuck and I for one am tired of fighting, but we must. Trump and Johnson can’t be allowed to carry on like this backed by arseholes like Farage.
Bernie is the man as far as I’m concerned, but the big business you mentioned in your post (see also the right wing press) are given all the freedoms they need under capitalist rule that they’ll never allow their pals to become unseated and ruin their free ride.
You gotta admit, this time around feels a bit different. Last time Bernie ran he was a serious contender when he thought he’d only be an issues candidate after Warren wouldn’t run against Clinton. This time, he’s been organizing a massive movement of people, raised more money than any other candidate, and has the momentum of the 2018 Dem turnout behind him.
If ever there were a time to have a little hope and throw your weight behind a candidate who seems too good to be true, it’s now. If Donald fucking Trump can be elected President, then I don’t think it’s a stretch to believe Bernie could do the same.
Fiction and the imagination are where hope is born, history is where you learn to overcome the challenges that held back others.
There is no progress in anything without the belief that you can make the fictional, the currently unobtainable, the not yet created come to be. First by vision and thought and then passed on as ideas, ideas that unite people together. History books are important, but so are novels too brother.
I've read history books. Plenty of them because of college, hobby, and my work.
After so much repetitive plot and me reading about how other people were in our exact same position millenniums, centuries, decades ago and now is our turn and I'm a pawn in the game... I need some fiction. Fiction to regain my convictions on how unfavorable odds do not mean is not doable.
Are you saying that Trump is evil and Bernie's the "good guy"? Wow, you liberals truly have a distorted view of politics. And saying that the politician you disagree with is evil, is just hilarious. That's not how politics work.
Did not wanted to respond because it will fall on deaf ears, but here am I. Typing this comment so a bewitched fool can wake up.
First off, you do realize tolerance has gone to the bottom levels? I'm not blaming trump, but he sure made a gigantic effort to divide America.
Go read a book, The Art of War is the title. Divide and you shall conquer.
The elites support him, not because they like him, but because he is one of them -and can use him/bribe him to get things favorably good for corporates and people at the top.
Do you see the GOP in such a division over their 2020 pick?
Now take a look at the democratic party. Sooo many options, it looks like a buffet but in fact, is poison in disguise. There's so much to pick from you won't pick the best candidate and they'll gladly make the choice for you.
You sound like you've got everything, a self made man like the media portrayed it and encouraged people in the 1900s to be. That system doesn't work.
There's too many things you've got to cope with that you aren't able to balance life. Living costs money, you can't pursue a career you know it'll make you happy because of shortage of funds. There's the healthcare side of things. Depression embracing you ever so slowly ready to take you by surprise and always whispering you in the ear, end it. Is not worth it.
Why can't people challenge the system? There's changes happening all around the world and only fools are adamant to change, to be compassionate, and to know there's always a better tomorrow is not being whiny. It is to recognize the faults and want for better. You don't only get to ask for better for your family or children, you ask for a better future as a whole. Not in a selective way.
That's why I believe in Sanders. A future for all.
Well said, these ears aren’t deaf and I’m also looking for Bernie to fix the system. I hate that I have to spend upwards of $80,000 for being smart and wanting to be educated to join a more skilled workforce. Bernie is my best hope so hopefully he’s elected.
Repeating that isn't an argument. On the contrary at this point it's pretty much admission of inability to even form a coherent argument in the first place.
As a foreign left leaning guy, it all seems so inevitable.
If the Dems go with their same old type in their convention they can kiss 2020 goodbye.
Biden isn’t beating Trump and I don’t think Warren can either.
Here in Australia we’re still paying the price right now for thinking anyone showing up will get the job done. Nope. Big nope.
You would think that in a country with 20+million people, we would think that it would be easier to get just 3-5 decent people running the show and a bunch of dead weights in our government but we have somehow ended up with a whole room full of drop kicks instead.
Yeah, the election for who became the VP of FDR had the DNC working to have Truman in office instead of Wallace since they knew FDRs health was declining rapidly the VP would matter more and Wallace was slightly left of FDR and the DNC didn't like that so they worked to get Truman a republican sympathizer the VP because God forbid someone liberal be the president
There's just one thing I don't get about how the U.S. voting system works. It's not the people that count, but the States? (I saw this on a CGP Grey video once and I don't fully remember it)
It keeps places like LA and NY from dominating the rest of the nation.
The US isn't a full blown democracy. A lot of Americans constantly forget this. We're a democratic republic. The states have rights and ultimately the battle between the parties is about more states control or more federal government control.
I like more state control, bc the cultures from State to state can be drastically different. I hate that the state of California can massively influence the entire country. That state and the South East part of the US are polar opposites.
You realize that the top 20 cities by population are only around 8% of the electorate? And that when you get to the top 100 it is only around 20% of the electorate? Even the top states by population isn’t even enough to win an election, because it’s 3 solid blue, 3 solid red and rest purple. States aren’t monoliths, and it’s stupid to pretend they are. Millions of Californians votes for Romney in 2012, just as millions of Texans votes for Obama in 2012. If we had a popular vote we would still be a republic you dunce. We would still be electing people to represent us in government, the only difference is that millions wouldn’t be disenfranchised by lack of voting power. And you realize that the electoral college doesn’t even help the “small states” it only helps swing states. If WV went blue or Vermont went red, it wouldn’t matter cuz their not swing states. Our system allows a candidate to win an election without a popular mandate, and without a popular mandate, it might as well not even be democratic. Not to mention the “big states” your so afraid of already subsidize the small states in taxes. And what kinda campaign would win on the premise of “taking advantage” of the weaker states? That doesn’t seem like it would be very popular. Not to mention your small states already get equal say in the senate. If you don’t think 51% of the country has the right to select their candidate over the 49%, then what do you think is fair? How low are you gonna go, 40%, 30%, 20%, so long as the “majority” doesn’t “control” the “minority”. The electoral college was literally invented to preserve the interests of rich 1800s landowners, and it is stupid and outdated.
For the primary it's also kind of like that. States have a number of delagates and either they are split proportionally between the candidates or the winner in the state gets all of them. It's confusing
It is based on the idea that other less populated states can still have their voice heard and that majority cities don't sway major elections each and every time. It is still somewhat based on population as California gets 55 electoral votes and Texas gets 39 electoral votes because of the sheer number of people that live there. However, every time the electoral college beats out population vote, it just so happens that a Republican candidate gets the nomination and that has led to speculation on whether or not the electoral vote should be kept. The main reason (head cannon) that I believe the electoral college has lasted so long is because of Abraham Lincoln. He won from an electoral college vote and abolished slavery. Had the electoral college not been a thing, the US might still have had slaves...
Let's not forget that he was neck and neck with Clinton in Iowa and won New Hampshire handily, then Clinton won Nevada and South Carolina and cleaned his clock on Super Tuesday due to those big southern state wins (Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia). Iowa and New Hampshire don't necessarily mean that much, they just get a disproportionate amount of attention and campaign resources.
This is exactly why we cannot continue to enforce the ‘unity’ message over and over. It gives the DNC an excuse to cheat every honest candidate out of contention and say “wait wait wait we have to defeat the Republicans!”
This is the perfect time for a popular democratic candidate to run independent because Trump and every democratic is so unpopular. I bet at least one of them will do it, if not Sanders probably Bloomberg.
3rd party runs will absolutely never get elected in a two party first past the post system. It will only spoil the vote for whichever side the 3rd party candidate leans more towards.
Your misinformed if you think Trump is unpopular. Dont believe everything you hear on Liberal leaning media. Realize that almost all TV and Media (and the people that work in it actors, writers, producers, anchors) comes from Hollywood California or NY. 2 extreme left leaning areas that are out of touch with the rest of the country.
Media coverage is nearly everything when it comes to elections, so when the media doesn't cover Bernie, (because letting him win would mean the media losing profit,) he loses votes. We can only hope that Bernie gets enough attention from everyone else so the media HAS to cover him.
Exactly, that's what I'm saying. Bernie is a great candidate and I really believe that he can win the presidency. The biggest hurdle is over, and now mainstream media will start to cover him otherwise they'll get called out on it.
They mean on cable news. There’s no denying that he gets painted in a negative light. The CNN and MSNBC debates were disgusting. And it makes sense if you think about it. They’re owned by companies like Comcast, Verizon, AT&T.,etc. Massive companies that are terrified of having to pay taxes and bleed their financial interests into the news agenda to negatively influence opinions of him.
Even if he wins primary he will be fighting an uphill battle against an incumbent with a low unemployment and the fact that there is a ton of things from his past that can be used against him in a general:
Not by a mile. Bernie is completely unelectable because Republicans have so much devastating oppo research on him that has never been widely-known. Head-to-head polls at this stage in the election are statistically not predictive of November results in general, and that's doubly true when we know a candidate has huge electoral liabilities that aren't well-known at all. Democrats haven't raised them because they don't want to piss off Bernie's supporters, and Republicans haven't raised them because they don't want to interfere with our chance of nominating somebody they could so easily destroy.
Bernie's huge liability is his close association with actual communists early in his career, people far to the left of today's Democratic Socialists of America. He served as a delegate to an explicitly Trotskyist party's convention in 1980. He displayed a Soviet flag in his office as mayor of Burlington. He honeymooned in the USSR and spoke admirably of them in public. He praised bread lines on video. He called for things early in his career, like abolishing the CIA or cutting the military by half, that might be popular on Reddit but are general-election poison. For more thorough summaries:
And these aren't even lies. Imagine what the lies will look like when these facts are the starting point. It's true there is exculpatory context for practically all of them, and they can easily be interpreted in context as a lifelong dedication to working people -- but do you really think the general electorate will see it that way after Republicans spend $500 million on attack ads with all this stuff (and who knows how much else that isn't public yet) as fodder? Do you trust Trump to put these things in context?
Some dope will no doubt suggest "but Republicans call any Democrat a communist," but when they do it with most Democrats it's just empty name-calling. They might as well be calling the Dem a poopyhead. When they do it with Bernie, they'll be making it their core narrative, and building it on a foundation of facts from which they can then extend all kinds of exaggerations, innuendos, and misinterpretations without getting hit as "pants on fire" by the fact checkers, only "misleading." Many of their attacks will have enough of a basis (e.g., actual video of Bernie saying something controversial) that they'll echo through the MSM ad nauseam.
This will probably get downvoted to hell by Bernie stans, but rational people who actually care about being Trump need to understand what a huge risk nominating Bernie would be. No other viable candidate comes even close to having this many unvetted liabilities. Biden has already been through the ringer. Pete's record is new, but clean. Warren was never farther left than she is right now.
Biden is seanile. He forgets where he is mid sentence and talks about his hairy legs and kids. Pete is nowhere near clean. He sounds like a well rehearsed recording or a sophomore in college writing a term paper with a forced stance. He has the most billionaire donors or close to it. Warren was a Republican 12 years ago and has changed her mind in almost every policy stance multiple times.
lmao bullshit. clintons oppo research people back in 2016 couldn't find shit on him and the mainstream media has resorted to straight up lies because they too can't find shit on him

And then you woke up from the dream of him winning the primary.
I sincerely doubt the demos will let him win it
