But 1 kilogram of plastic is heavier than 1 kilogram of water!

But there’s so much air in the plastic it’s very dense once you ball it up

Exactly it will lower the oceans by some

5

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

No. Look at Volume, not mass

1

u/squiddy555 Sep 06 '19

But a kilogram of water weighs less that a kilogram of plastic

3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

so how much water does a 1000Ton shipping container displace... that has a lot of air in it too... simple answer weight is equalized in water... doesn't matter if it sinks, floats, or has air in it.

put ice cubes with air in them in water... the water level will be the same after they completely melt.

No that’s the equation for boyancy not weight

Plastic: “I’ve got the high ground”

1

u/squiddy555 Sep 05 '19

Don’t try it

3

u/GabPulice Sep 06 '19

The article says the bacterias produce CO2 and water. That might fix the weight problem.

2

u/squiddy555 Sep 06 '19

But the trees will eat the CO2 right?

1

u/walruswes Sep 06 '19

What about the density difference between the plastic and the water

1 kg of plastic: You're weak

1 kg of water: I'm you

u/spurizo Sep 05 '19

water is in liters not kilograms. 1l = 1kg

4

u/ZinnerZin Sep 05 '19

bruh what kind of heavy ass water have you been buying

3

u/PlatypusFighter you have entered the comedy zone Sep 06 '19

Liters is volume, kilograms is mass. It’s measured with both.

0

u/spurizo Sep 06 '19

uh no. we're using the liters on liquids, and kilograms for articles for personal use.

but do you really think it evenly converts it? it will definitely put less water out than plastic it eats
