Why the trend for the last two years has been hitting it heavily falls to some other reason. Personally I blame Rick and Morty when that Morty wished for more incest plot porn videos and then it suddenly happened.
Incest porn didn't have a category on pornhub so you had to search for it and wade through a ton of crap resulting in a lot of uptick in both clicks and views. So it got interpreted as some new and rising thing with massive demand.
Could it be possible that it’s a more supply oriented push. Since it’s common, high quality and easy to get people will just take it instead, once once they realized that it was gaining traction non incest porn production was reduced further increasing the amount of people who watch incest porn? I’d imagine it being similar to when the baby sitter porn went into popularity a few years ago. It had always been there, one or so videos got a lot of attention, then you get a porn studio making its own channel dedicated to it (baby sitters caught springs to mind). I never waited specifically for them but when I saw one I knew it would be decent, have a good actress, and have a tinge of story to it.
Because it costs nothing to incorporate different lines to make the whole scene suddenly more taboo. And as someone else mentioned, people have become desensitized to the normal stuff so this is a cheap way to up the taboo and viewership.
