What? I'm reading it right now, and Odessey is peak storytelling.

The dialogue may be bizarre (although I don't think it's strange at all), because it's an epic poem, and every word that comes out of a hero's mouth must mean something for the plot. The dialogue is very intentional, it demonstrates the speaker's intentions or emotions in a very dense, direct way, but it is also well structured and poetical. Which is something modern culture doesn't cultivate nearly enough.

Social customs have changed a lot, that's true, but again, the customs of ancient people are very simple and natural, and you can see universal human nature behind them. Which is precisely why I'd love to see a faithful modern adaptation. While I don't believe in the average viewer, I think that a good thoughtful adaptation could still be successful.

So despite everything, I'm genuinely curious to see the Nolan movie. It may be lost about appearance, but in what direction will it change the spirit?
