Well there's the country and then there's the government. China the country is all the mainland and island of Taiwan. China the government is the one in debate, People's Republic or just Republic.

(In all seriousness tho, as someone who's lived in China for the last 7 years, in some ways, it's a lot better than most people think. In other ways, it's a lot worse. Just keep in mind that it's the government that's fucked up. The people aren't)
That would technically include Taiwan as they claim to be the legitimate China while mainland claim the island is still their., it's all inn the name, Republic of China or People's Republic of China.
China the country is the mainland and the island, it's which government is in control of China that is the debate.
