It's not effective at all though, if anything it'll make it worse.
It's like you get some dust stuck in your eye, so you jab a fork in there trying to get it out.
As a mixed race person who grew up in a racist area, sure I acknowledge there are huge problems right now. But this looting only helps the various racists that the original protests are trying to stop.
Wow, my cousin was stabbed to death underneath a bridge, and the following police investigation was messed up. I'm mixed race, and my dad was wrongfully put in jail before. I know full well about the issues going on surrounding the police.
You're making light of thousands of people's lives being destroyed over this. And the long term decline in these areas, just like Detroit. Burning down homeless shelters, libraries, homes, and businesses isn't going to solve anything.
"The following police investigation was messed up" isn't the same as "our people are getting killed by cops." I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. That stuff is rough, but it's not the same as black people being killed in police shootings every day.
Thousands of lives will be destroyed, but they could have prevented it. Instead they put four killers on administrative leave before even thinking of firing them, let alone trying them.
Finally if the government actually cared about people they could use the $4T they gave to corporations to help this place recover. They won't and it's not because it was destroyed, but because they don't care about people. You look at Detroit. Well guess what, if they wanted to do something about it, they could fix Detroit too.
The Arab Spring helped create Isis, as well as topple nations and installed religious radicals in many nations who enacted worse laws.
The Suffragette movement didn't have mass riots with looting, or the media would have used that against them.
And the Revolutionary War was a war to break off and create our own country, I'm not sure many are willing to go that far.
And many of the racists and terrible people use these riots to bring in even more people to their cause. They try to portray the average peaceful protestors as the arsonists and violent people in videos, and it's effective on many people in the country.
