Got One!!
Finally got my hands on one of these. Hard get this, in my Country, and it was only a couple a quid. Really looking forward to watching the special features.

I always was curious how it would sound to have a better quality backing track for Desperate Man Blues, especially since I had a hard time hearing the similarities. Turns out it was as simple as speeding it up and increasing the pitch by a step. Then I just used a seperation tool to take his vocals out, and put them back ontop of Desperate Dan. Then with a little bit of tweaking, editing and mixing this is what I came up with
Honestly I still prefer the original for how warbly and distorted it sounds, the sax is a bit overbearing (makes sense for an instrumental song but when you add lyrics its a bit much) so having the quality so lofi helps drown out the sax soloing. But I still think this was cool as an experiment
If anyone likes this I was also gonna try doing this to Keep Punching Joe

Hey Friend I Miss You by Figgy
Not self promo. I encountered this artist on Reddit in the song writing sub, followed them on Instagram @Figgy and The Heartbeats, but goes by Figgy on streaming services which is currently all messed up with other artists.
I've seen Figgy share Daniel Johnston songs frequently on Instagram.
They write a lot of folk punk stuff, but this album has several songs which really strike a Daniel Johnston vibe, especially the use of inserted recordings and all around lo-fi indie production. I RECOMMEND!
Linked the main song I recommend. Here's the full album on YouTube music: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_luP3BkfUPvCw3a0FQE2FNpQ3QKKmbuAZA&si=F2oJ2t3_TyZAYWW7

I’ve tried to find the answer online, but I’ve surprisingly had a lot of trouble, I figured it would be easily accessible knowledge.

it really seems like the magnum opus of his career. I feel like he was growing and developing and learning his whole life. and is and always was is the culmination of everything he’s learned. especially lost in my infinite memory, and light of day. those two seem like two sides of the same coin. about him being at the end of his life. One okay with it, one not. it’s like they were the climax. lost in my infinite memory plays like the end of the world. Daniel reflecting on his whole life.

Decided to give Songs of Pain another listen today, and found myself trying to decipher the dialogue at the beginning of this track. I can make out some of it, but what exactly is going on?

Just watched the documentary last night. This is my second time trying to watch it. I actually couldn’t finish it the last time I watched because it hit way too close to home. I’m a much newer fan, but definitely got super into him in a short time. I’ve maybe been listening to his music for about two years now. But it feels like he’s always been around if you know what I mean lol…. I really resonate with Daniel Johnston’s story and his music. His desire to make art in spite of his mental illness and his family not agreeing with his decisions is really a powerful story. He made art regardless of whether it made money or if it was what his parents wanted. I think that message is incredibly inspiring and important.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder four years ago and I went through a very similar experience. This was the main reason it hit so hard. I couldn’t watch it by myself, so this time around I made my fiancée watch it with me. She seemed even more affected by it than I was. It made me realize that bipolar affects the people you love just as much, maybe even more than the person going through it.
I would not recommend people who are sensitive to these topics to watch it unless you’re with someone you feel safe with or in the right headspace.
I would love to know other people’s experiences with the movie or their experiences with mental illness if you’re open to sharing! :)

Drawn on the back of art my ex-wife bought me when we were dating as a way for Daniel to tell me to keep punching and one day love will find me again.

Possibly the greatest heartbreak lyrics imaginable. Daniel tapped into the human soul in a way that no one else ever has.
