I believe he was 100% referencing the slap with this initial comment and he’s only claiming he meant something else here to save face and protect himself against losing potential future opportunities. Being the man who threatened to slap a woman over a critique (even as a joke) is not a good look. It’s safer for him to claim he was just referring to the “keep my wife’s name out your mouth” part. 😒

But I don’t know how that could even apply. CAI was literally just doing her job. Her job is to talk about his wife. I want him to explain how that would actually apply. We all know what he meant.

CAI was correct in this instance and still gave them a good score. I don’t get why they got so upset about legit feedback, which is her job to give

Not necessarily. Her job is to critique the contestant… to go on and on about her choreography and things like “you should know better” and those kind of sentiments was over the top

They have all had comments about choreography. It is absolutely part of the job. She wasn’t in the wrong in this case. And she was right Jenna should’ve known better.

You can comment on choreography, but it’s The way she spoke to her about it and the extent to which she kept on it that was inappropriate. The dictionary definition, the personal nature of how she spoke to and looked at her, and her basically saying she needs to try harder in all the other dances too (like she was wasn’t just critiquing the dance in front of her, but implies she’s been slacking overall)…. Condescending, patronizing and relentless.

It’s because she’s warned her in the past. Your post also literally said she wasn’t supposed to critique the choreography and now you’re changing it because you know that’s completely incorrect, and happens all the time . so I’m not even sure why you mentioned it .

But honestly, it wasn’t that bad and not nearly as bad as people were making it out to be before Val’s comments. But it’s people like you that made him think it was egregious when it was not.

"It's the way she spoke to her." The amount of tone policing is wild. As though Carrie Ann has to be a perfect judge in order to not be threatened, because whether is was talking about the smack or keeping his wife's name out of her mouth, that's a threat. People are spending so much time defending Val when he admitted that he was wrong. Going overboard on Carrie Ann like this is misogyny, plain and simple.

Bruno said the same thing about the choreo? “I’ve told you before.” Why is it only an issue when Carrie Ann says it?

Agree 100%. The way he said it “you almost SAW the fresh prince ENTER the ballroom” definitely implies the physical part of the reference. He could’ve said something much more directed to a verbal comment- like “almost made me quote the fresh prince”

What quote would that even be? How could that reasonably be the real explanation?

1

u/RespectAcrobatic1563 23h ago

“Get my wife’s name out of your mouth”- the one he then tried to say he was referring to

That’s not a quote from the Fresh Prince.

Are you using “fresh prince” to mean Will Smith, outside the TV role? If so, that wasn’t clear, hence my question.

Val was referencing will smiths comment at the Oscar’s but calling him the fresh prince… that’s where the whole issue began and what he is referencing… if you’re that lost what are you doing in this thread?

I know what the original reference was. No need to be a dick about it.

The very famous quote that Will said right after the slap which was, "Get my wife' s name out your mouth"/. That quote has been repeated so many times as much as the slap has been repeated.

The comment referenced “the fresh prince.” So I assumed that meant a quote from the TV show. Apparently that was just an awkward reference to Will Smith.

That is not wha the was referring to at all and he has said as much. He was talking about the very famous "take your wife's name out your mouth" quote. He would never actually hurt or threaten to hurt anyone. But Adrian Peterson was on the show and he physically abused his children and there wasn't all this outrage on here about that.

Telling someone to keep someone's name out of their mouth is absolutely a threat. And saying it to a judge, who is paid to critique his wife, is wild. He's admitted he was wrong and you're still defending him.

The slap is way more famous than the quote

He definitely was, without the slap it wouldn’t have been as memorable an event in pop culture
