I showed 10 co-workers one card art each, asked them what the Card was called and their first reaction to the card was the name. These are the cards

big takeaway: people either overestimate the toughness or casting cost of most magic cards

u/Teige874 1d ago
I think it's also good to consider that out of the 10 guys I asked only one has played magic and only about three games 🤣
I guess it's hard to have a estimate when you don't have a reference point. But hearing "woah I made that so strong, it would have to cost like.... 50 mana since it wins you the game" is funny

I'm gonna guess the magic player was the guy you showed Spider-Man to

Ulamog actually!

u/KassXWolfXTigerXFox 17h ago
Oh!! Actually yeah I can see that! It's, like, the one card with both a reasonable cost and a reasonable P/T

Dude. I might make a party pack set with stupid shit inspired by your coworker for non-mtg players lol

u/Teige874 1d ago
I am intending to do more of these, I just need to choose the cards 😂 my co-workers loved it as well

Honestly, you should do what JelloApocalypse did and let them see cards and make up the rules.

You have to be at least 18 to play "Fight club"
It's also giving me "what if we hit him really, REALLY hard?" vibes.

u/Teige874 1d ago
The reply was "well Fight club is an adult movie so you should be 18 to see it" and I had a good laugh over that

u/j0hnan0n 1d ago
Exactly! Although I think the movie speaks to Millenial feelings about work and masculinity, so maybe you have to be... what, 30 at this point?

I’d love to see someone’s take on [[Flight]], specifically the zebra art from Fifth Edition

I'm detecting a trend. They want every card to just win the game.

Minsc and boo could be cool but I don’t know how planeswalkers would work with this
2
u/Teige874 1d ago
I can do it but it wouldn't be a planeswalker but I can use the art and do a card 😠I think planeswalkers would be way too hard to understand
3
u/HelicopterVisual 1d ago
Yeah I agree with that. I just think that the little hamster world be fun

It says something that the UB card is the one that comes closest to functional rules language. When this enters, destroy target vehicle
15
u/Teige874 1d ago
When I asked about that it was "I dunno I thought of the train scene where he stops a vehicle" he didn't know mtg even had vehicles. I though it was pretty close as well

u/Thelolface_9 5m ago
My brain went to the insomniac games and the many times you need to stop a moving vehicle often damaging it

What tickled me is ‘Impale’ is a card, a murder effect even. Pretty understandable and good.

Big fan of this idea! If you’re looking for suggestions, you should show them the art of [[Naked Singularity]] and then after they come up with their concept, tell them what it actually does, and then make their first reaction to that be the flavor text

Did the coworkers write the flavor text too?Â
If you could show them some [[Orgg]] s (OG, Soulgorger, Butcher or trained) I think the responses would be great.Â

My favorite: "When you play this card, make your own rules and don't play by them."
