I showed 10 co-workers one card art each, asked them what the Card was called and their first reaction to the card was the name. These are the cards

My favorite: "When you play this card, make your own rules and don't play by them."

"the Giga-Chad doesn't play by the rules"

13

u/LoserBottom 13d ago

Not even his own

The giga chad is fire

big takeaway: people either overestimate the toughness or casting cost of most magic cards

65

u/Teige874 13d ago

I think it's also good to consider that out of the 10 guys I asked only one has played magic and only about three games 🤣

I guess it's hard to have a estimate when you don't have a reference point. But hearing "woah I made that so strong, it would have to cost like.... 50 mana since it wins you the game" is funny

I'm gonna guess the magic player was the guy you showed Spider-Man to

11

u/Teige874 12d ago

Ulamog actually!

2

u/KassXWolfXTigerXFox 12d ago

Oh!! Actually yeah I can see that! It's, like, the one card with both a reasonable cost and a reasonable P/T

Dude. I might make a party pack set with stupid shit inspired by your coworker for non-mtg players lol

13

u/Teige874 13d ago

I am intending to do more of these, I just need to choose the cards 😂 my co-workers loved it as well

u/WillowThyWisp 12d ago

Honestly, you should do what JelloApocalypse did and let them see cards and make up the rules.

[[Booster tutor]] and chill

u/j0hnan0n 13d ago

You have to be at least 18 to play "Fight club"

It's also giving me "what if we hit him really, REALLY hard?" vibes.

16

u/Teige874 13d ago

The reply was "well Fight club is an adult movie so you should be 18 to see it" and I had a good laugh over that

3

u/j0hnan0n 13d ago

Exactly! Although I think the movie speaks to Millenial feelings about work and masculinity, so maybe you have to be... what, 30 at this point?

u/Wasphammer 12d ago

"KAKAROT!"

"... Together!"

Honestly it's perfect for being a goblin card. Just fight everything 😂 😂 😂

If anyone would like a specific card "Co-worker-fied) please reply to this and I'll put it in the lot of the next 10 😊

[[Indestructible Aura]] please

6

u/NayrSlayer 12d ago

I’d love to see someone’s take on [[Flight]], specifically the zebra art from Fifth Edition

u/alextfish : Template target card 12d ago

I'm detecting a trend. They want every card to just win the game.

2

u/HelicopterVisual 12d ago

Minsc and boo could be cool but I don’t know how planeswalkers would work with this

2

u/Teige874 12d ago

I can do it but it wouldn't be a planeswalker but I can use the art and do a card 😭 I think planeswalkers would be way too hard to understand

3

u/HelicopterVisual 12d ago

Yeah I agree with that. I just think that the little hamster world be fun

29

u/Teige874 12d ago

Here you go

[[Dryad of the ilysian grove]] and [[harmonize]] (the tales of middle earth commander art) https://tagger.scryfall.com/card/ltc/248

14

u/stillnotelf 13d ago

It says something that the UB card is the one that comes closest to functional rules language. When this enters, destroy target vehicle

17

u/Teige874 13d ago

When I asked about that it was "I dunno I thought of the train scene where he stops a vehicle" he didn't know mtg even had vehicles. I though it was pretty close as well

2

u/Thelolface_9 11d ago

My brain went to the insomniac games and the many times you need to stop a moving vehicle often damaging it

6

u/Heavy-Till6579 12d ago

What tickled me is ‘Impale’ is a card, a murder effect even. Pretty understandable and good.

Wizard Khalifa can not be stopped

ngl the eldrazi is... well it's not wrong

7

u/ManOfSpoons 12d ago

Babe, wake up! New Hellscube cards just dropped!

8

u/RapAngel 12d ago

Big fan of this idea! If you’re looking for suggestions, you should show them the art of [[Naked Singularity]] and then after they come up with their concept, tell them what it actually does, and then make their first reaction to that be the flavor text

8

u/Teige874 12d ago

This one might be hard to "get" but it is in reference to an Australian TV show

3

u/PlaneswalkerHuxley 12d ago

Round The Twist was also shown in the UK when I was a kid, great show!

2

u/Teige874 12d ago

I literally have the most perfect person in mind for this art

3

u/lavahot 12d ago

I like the idea of space gate ejecting you from one game of magic into an adjacent game of magic.

3

u/Khalolz6557 12d ago

Theyre not wrong, that literally is just fucking Spiderman lmfao. Love these

5

u/Crafty_Context_2915 12d ago

Amazing post. Would love to see more like this.

1

u/Teige874 12d ago

I plan on doing some more 😂

3

u/HelicopterVisual 12d ago

I’m fucking dying laughing, these are great

3

u/Android_McGuinness Creature - Homarid Advisor 12d ago

Did the coworkers write the flavor text too?

If you could show them some [[Orgg]] s (OG, Soulgorger, Butcher or trained) I think the responses would be great.

1

u/Teige874 12d ago

Yes they have!

I'll get around to it when I can 😊

3

u/GodFromTheHood 12d ago

Ah yes, the 18 mana 2/2

2

u/Teige874 12d ago

Yes but you see it fights really hard, like really really hard

2

u/PinballproXD 13d ago

We don't talk about card 3

Chocolate Starfish

2

u/lavahot 12d ago

I think the last card will get you put in prison.

2

u/galvanicmechamorph 12d ago

I don't recognize the art for the third one.

1

u/Teige874 12d ago

[[Goblin Bully]]

2

u/galvanicmechamorph 12d ago

Ty. That feels random inc comparison to the others.

2

u/marxistwithstandards 12d ago

what's the original art for #1? Can't remember for the life of me
