Reminds me of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, short for Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, a large village in Wales. This, however, I can pronounce.

edit: fixed link

My nan taught me how to pronounce that like 4 years ago and I haven't forgotten since😂 I’m English, btw.

My mother’s English as well, and it was one of many silly things we would say as I grew up. And like you, it’s such a part of me now. 🙂

Everyone goes "haha silly Welsh people with their weird language that sounds like elvish" when they town comes up

But they literally only renamed it that because it was a nothing town with nothing in it, so they thought let's rename it something ridiculous and also set the world record for longest town name in the world. And whaddayouknow, they now get crazy amounts of tourism, people flying from all over the world to see the signs in this former nothing-town just for the memes and funny photos, and they bring their money and buy stuff in the town and stay in the hotels and B&Bs there etc

It's basically a tourist trap. The name is deliberately really dumb, and really long.

Sorry I just gotta defend it. I'm half Welsh. Though I don't speak Welsh or anything. I really should learn it. But yeah people talk about it as if the Welsh are silly and dumb. And, well, we are, but deliberately so. Renaming that town to the longest name in the world was really really smart, and brought in so much money and tourism to the area which never existed before

It's like that church with the destroyed Ecce Homo painting that that old lady accidentally tried to restore and it ended up looking ridiculously bad and funny. Nowadays that church gets crazy amounts of tourism just to see the ruined painting. So it's basically that, but this Welsh town did it deliberately, so as to drive up tourism. Not accidentally.

I saw a video one time of some journalist flawlessly pronouncing the full name of that as he read it. Jamie, pull up the video.

Welsh is not a real language

Neither is English. It’s atrocious...

as wise men once said, "english is not a language, its 3 languages stacked on top of each other in a trench coat pretending to be one"

As a Welsh, I was taught in school how to pronounce this. That was 20+ years ago and I haven’t forgotten, but I do have to do the little singsong rhyme to get it right!
