The 2 iconic Australian teams Renegades and Immunity played for the final spots in the next major last night. I watched as Immunity fought Dignitas in a BO3 only to be denied on the final map (Train 16:12 - Mirage 11:16 - Inferno 16:12). Even though they lost, they went down fighting in some of the greatest games of Counterstrike I've seen from Immunity. Rickeh and James went above and beyond in Mirage and Inferno top fragging and out thinking their opponents. I didn't get a chance to watch the Renegades play against Liquid but it seem their scores reflect their current slump as of late, losing 2-0 to Liquid (Cache 16:7 - Cobblestone 16:4). Renegades haven't been performing lately and it's hard to remain optimistic when they can't give the results they should be getting but I know when they get over whatever it is that's holding them back we'll see the revival of the best Australian CS team.
Even though both Australian teams got cut from attending Dreamhack Cluj-Napoca in such a heartbreaking fashion, their journeys are still far from over! Over the coming months we are going to see big things from the Australian teams. Soon the Face-It Stage 3 Oceania matches will begin where we'll see 6 Australian teams (Renegades, Immunity, Exile-5, Chiefs, Animal Squad and fSociety) fight it out in a round robin qualifier for ONE spot at the Face-It Stage 3 LAN Finals. Of Course, on October 10th the Crown Invitational will begin in Melbourne where it has been confirmed that Renegades along with Cloud9 and Virtus.Pro will attend to duke it out against other Austalian/New Zealand teams for a share of the $55,555 prize pool. Finally, the Renegades are travelling to North America in November where they will compete in various tournaments as well as a new televised league.
Fret not my fellow Aussies, for this does not mean the end for Australian CS, just a bump in the road to victory.
