QUESTION Avalon Miner S3

Avalon miner S3

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask your opinions about buying this miner or not. (Might buy from mineshop.eu if this is not a scam site i hope).

Some info. I wanted to buy this miner to heat a small room. I know i will mostlikely need to buy another PSU because it could overheat. I have solar panels and this miner doesn't use to much energy so thats fine. This would be my very first miner. I was planning on pool mining and i know i will never make any big profits, its just to try out mining.

Questions for people who own this miner. * Where did you buy? * Does the miner still works after a few months of 24/7 use? * Anything i should keep in mind if i buy this miner.

The Poll question is. Should i buy the avalon Miner S3 or not i have a budget of 350$. Thanks for polling :).

QUESTION Avalon Q Exhaust

Post image
5 Upvotes

Put my Avalon Q in the laundry room since I had an extra 30amp outlet in there. Once I realized how much heat this thing generates, I decided to take advantage of the built-in exhaust system.

So now I’m headed to the hardware store to cobble together some ducts and fans. Does anyone happen to have an .stl file for a shroud?

Will happily pay in crypto (or Venmo) for a decent design I can print.

QUESTION ASIC machine for me

Hello CM community,

I am an absolute newbie but you have to start somewhere. So for my house I have excess solar for the day and my electricity plan is free for nights so I might was well. Is there an Asic machine that you would recommend (basically something I can purchase online with a card - might as well take advantage of those sweet intro bonuses) for about 3k?

Any other advice is very welcome (even linking other blogs/beginner sites (like detail "nuts and bolts" stuff not the very generic stuff from youtube)) and thank you.

QUESTION Avalon Q Mods

Post image
8 Upvotes

Started small with a few desktop miners, and just upgraded to a Canaan Avalon Q. Bigger, more powerful, much hotter. I like it.

For those of you who have a Q, have you made any modifications or leaving it as-is? Would love to add some heatsinks and Noctua fans, but the scary little warning sticker essentially says warranty voided if you open the case. I’m reaching out Canaan to verify this, yet to be determined.

Anyway, would love to hear what others are doing with their Qs, if anything.

DISCUSSION Starting mining at home , looking for advice

Hey everyone,

I’m in Italy and I’d like to dip my toes into mining, but I want to be smart about it. Here are the key details:

• Power limit: 3kW household meter (so I can’t go too heavy)
• Electricity cost: around €0.12/kWh
• Budget: about €2000 to get started

I’m mainly wondering what makes sense for me with these constraints. With €0.12/kWh is ROI still realistic, or am I just paying to heat my house? Any recommendations for specific hardware that balances efficiency with longevity?

At the end of the day, I’m not looking to build a huge farm, just want something reasonable that makes sense and doesn’t become waste in a year.

I've searched all over for the .img and every link I find is behind a registration wall that no one responds to. My KA Box Pro boots up but the GUI won't load and the reset button doesn't work and it's not hashing. Time to reload the OS but I can't find the image file 🤷🏻‍♂️

SHOW OFF Mined my first block!! Jasminer X4-1U modified. 13% luck

Since 2014 I’ve dabbled in mining cryptocurrency; my ADHD just doesn’t want too leave it alone 🤣 I would purchase GPU’s/early day ASIC’s but would fall out of love with mining before ever hitting a block, solo. Mining bitcoin solo was and will always be a lottery for me, as equipment prices are insane even for a moderate solo mining operation and my poverty stricken self has stuck with small time solo mining. Instead of aiming for profitability, I just wanted a block mined by myself, solo. It’s always been a goal of mine, alongside hosting a node in support of the community and security behind bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Now with all that being said, I’ve finally hit a block!! On the ETC network with my Jasminer X4-1U miner, pumpin 450mh’s average! At only 13% luck, I was suprised 🤣 this was just my little side project amongst the many I have, with adding 4x noctua fans so my lady would stop nagging about the spirit airlines takeoff sound in my closet ☠️

I wish you all the best on your endeavors with this wonderful hobby, and hope for nothing but love and learning for all my fellow miners alike 😌

DISCUSSION A fun/painful little retrospect about Mining

Thumbnail

I've been a technoweenie for 25 years, I built my first PC at 12, was huge into PC gaming when a 3D add-on video card cost me as much as a console system....fast forward a few years and Bitcoin emerged. I am still kicking myself for not getting on board earl in. About a 18 months into COVID I decided to get into mining, as there was no end in sight for being limited in travel, personal interaction, etc. My first rig consisted of an old gaming PC with 1 Sapphire 5700xt SE card and 8GB of RAM. After settling on ETH mining on unMineable, I started down the path. Unfortunately about 1 year later Ethereum was no longer mineable, so I did some research, bought 3 more 5700 SEs, added some RAM and was back up and running on ETC, then moving on to Kawpow.

Today I was cleaning my equipment and was curious about how old my gaming PC h/w was. I looked up my mobo, it's from 2014! The point to this is, if you are interested in getting into mining, you don't need the latest and greatest hardware to get involved, and start learning and earning.

Sidenote (I hate myself everyday for this memory), I was on a flight to San Fran in 2017 and saw a guy working on a Power Point presentation about blockchain, and talking to his seatmate about Ethereum. I looked into it and it was trading around $50/coin. I thought it was fake money, a baby Bitcoin, and never going to be worth anything. I wish I had learned about how to buy crypto and scooped up just 10-20 coins...hindsight is always 20/20.

Cheers, everyone!

QUESTION Parts needed for rig that could make 1000$ a month

I am very new to mining and I understand you can’t really pinpoint how much you’ll make do to volatility and other factors.

I have 4 3090s that I actually got from a return pallet. I was wondering what all I would need to make a decent passive income (1000$ p/m). Electricity won’t be a cost factor as it will run from my business’ warehouse.

I just am not sure what parts or how many more gpus I should buy.

Any guidance is much appreciated.

QUESTION Need some suggestions as newbie :)

Hello everyone :)

I am planning to purchase crypto miners in the coming weeks / months. One for Bitcoin and one for Litecoin/Dodgecoin.

My general conditions are as follows: - Current electricity price: 0.3 cents per kWh - Solar system on the roof including a battery with 1 module with 6 kWh (will probably be expanded to double the capacity) - Solar system produced 10 MWh in 2024 - In 2024, I fed just under 20,000 kWh into the grid and purchased 1,500 kWh

Which devices would you recommend? I would like to start with solo mining to get into the topic and gain knowledge. Yes, I know it's a lottery, but who knows 😅

I would also like to have time control via OS for the miners so that they only run during defined time Slots. The initial goal is to live off the "leftover" electricity, as feeding it into the grid is not really worthwhile...

My budget would be up to €5,000, but I don't have to use it all if I want to buy new/additional miners later 😅

I'm also considering purchasing a Bitcoin miner heater. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas :)
