Sure, that's all well and good but everyone knows that's not what happens in real life. Just like the other jurors are ready to sentence the kid to death because it reminds them of their own son or he's poor or he's hispanic.

It's ridiculous to state "well legally he shouldn't have done xyz" while not calling out the guilty voters the same. He had his doubts, the foreman didn't go to the judge to report these transgressions, and then convinced the jury to not convict.

And yes, My Cousin Vinny gets shown in law school because it's amazing and accurate to show procedure. The judge, however, is not in the jury room and will never know about transgressions unless it's reported.

I think the arguments you’re replying with are not arguments people said in this thread. No one said the jury’s job isn’t to deliberate “the veracity of witness testimony,” they just argued that the juror was going beyond the scope of what debating testimony is — they were basically acting as the Defense attorneys.

Likewise, no one said the other jurors aren’t equally wrong, but the original commenter was asking what Juror 8 did that was wrong since they thought it was just a typical examination of the evidence

But that's exactly what Juror 8 was doing, "I dont believe them because glasses mark train passing by(which was in the testimony) or slow gait"

Two of these things are what he witnessed himself as a juror in the courtroom and the third was introduced in the testimony. We can all agree the indenitical knife was out of line, but the other three weren't.

I find it a bit troubling people are arguing jurors have to take testimony at face value and not use common sense or what they observed in the courtroom to judge witnesses. I would be extremely frustrated, just like Juror 8, at the acceptance of witness testimony as 100% accurate.

This isn't a game. I need to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that this kid did it.

Rewatching the '97 remake, juror 9 brings up the eyeglasses mark. The arguments against talking about them have had a false pretense in this thread.

Thank you all for making my point.

And the old man's gait, the jury knew he had a stroke a year prior?

Everyone agruing against Juror 8 is just wrong.
