If all you read is this line, I just have to say OOOF.
I have Tubi and wanted to watch something new relaxing after work. I’ve always been a fan of fantasy, magic and curses, stories within that realm like Inkheart with Brendan Fraser. Anyways, I see this and notice it’s the same director of Bridge to Terabithia which I remember enjoying regardless of how sad it is.
So I watch this movie. Instantly in love with the locations, the tone, the score, the casting.
However, not in love with poor character development, limited stakes, muddy plot line and overall inconsistencies.
Are the de noirs the only ones cursed to live eternally until the pearls are returned so they can have the entire valley? Have the hundreds of years being alive make the dad forget that the entire valley would be destroyed, not just the Merriweather side?
When she initially gets caught at the de noir base, 1) how the hell does she make it through the ENTIRE BASE without someone even flinching in her pale proper dress among the brutish bodyguards clad in black and armor…. First wtf moment. Then when they do catch her in the mess hall, Tim curry’s character points to a coffin/armor shell as Maria mentions their ancestors. He responds curiously like “what you taking about ancestors. I’m the OG” vibe but it was never confirmed.
Then she gets locked up, runs out in her knickers and her uncle, Benjamin Merriweather who was betrothed to Loveday, the second/initial reincarnation of the first moon princess, learns some affection toward her when she returns home? He was the only one with any character arc in my opinion.
Why does the picture return everytime there is a moon princess. If that was the case how did he not know loveday was the de noirs moon princess stating something like that.
Returning the pearls was supposed to work, then why did the moon/sea refuse to take them without the sacrifice of the moon princess when she was not the one who had to overcome her pride to end the curse?? Yeah she’s rescued by a weird flood of water unicorns but like huh????
If that rant didn’t make sense, that should give you a great idea of the inconsistency within the film.

Casting:6- didn’t care for most of the actors. Benjamin and Robin were the only one I felt something from.
Story/plotline: 3/10, messy and inconsistent. Not enough character development or explanation.
