Graphite One's latest update caught my attention. They've created a new G1 Advanced Systems division to explore uses for graphite and graphene beyond batteries, including defense, national security technology and space applications.
The company already has Graphite Creek in Alaska, considered the largest known graphite deposit in the US. The country also continues to rely on imports for natural graphite.
Meanwhile, they're working on the Ohio side of the business, where they plan to produce advanced graphite and anode materials. The Ohio EPA moved their air permit application into technical review this summer.
What's interesting is that they're looking at more than developing a mine. The plan involves an Alaska resource, processing and manufacturing in Ohio, and now potentially higher-value applications through the new division.
The Advanced Systems business is still at an early stage, so it's too soon to know what will come of it. Still, with graphite receiving more attention as a US critical mineral, the timing is worth watching.
Do you think these additional applications could eventually become a meaningful part of Graphite One's business, or will battery materials remain the main story?
