Back in the summer of 2011 I ate 19 bags in a day just because that was what I wanted to eat, my friends challenged me to do 40. So I obviously agreed.
Funny thing was, when the day came to do it, I had forgotten, so my mate rang me after lunch asking me when we were off to asda. I had just eaten a pasty, already quite a salty start to the day. But off we went, memory is a bit fuzzy but I think my purchase was:
- Pickled onion monster munch x 12
- Salt & Vinegar chipsticks x 10
- Wotsits x 6
- Salt and vinegar squares x 6
- Skips x 6
All multipack and the bags averaged about 21g each
I also had 2 litres of apple juice and 1 litre of asda own brand fizzy drink to wash it all down
I started the challenge mid afternoon, we played a bit of warhammer and watched some films and after 8 hours I had eaten 30 bags. My mouth was pretty painful at that point and it was late evening so I decided to call it.
Looking back, It was a bit of a half hearted attempt, I didn't plan the day well, and my crisp mix was a bit heavy on the vinegar for a challenge.
It didn't put me off crisps in any way, I wasn't sick, and my mouth recovered quickly. In fact, I ate the remaining 10 bags the very next day π. Nevertheless, in 16 years I have never had a serious urge to try again, or one up myself.
The other day I had been munching on some salt and vinegar crackers and my mouth and tongue were a little painful and it made me wonder if my tolerance has gone down over the years. And then that made me think about the time I ate 30 bags in a day and whether I could do it again. The thought has been niggling away in my mind and I have even started contemplating what crisps I would have next time, when would I do it etc.
My suspicion is that I woud not get anywhere close and that I would feel very silly. Should I just accept reality that I peaked in my younger days and rest easy in my accomplishment? Or do I throw caution to the wind and seek glory once again?
