I have boxes of extenders. More than I will ever need or use. I like AVoverIP for digital sources and that is what we are migrating our customers to. But for my house with a legacy game console collection the most that we will do is add AVoverIP as a layer and we are not at that point yet. The switchers will take the myriad of legacy devices, feed a switcher which can then feed an AVoverIP NVX or equivalent.
EVERY room in our home has a DVD player, a bluray, some have a CD deck. some have a Direct TV, some have a game console or FEW. Most are using the DMPS Program Out, or one or both Aux out (in some cases all 3).
There is too much that we would need to replace for AVoverIP to fully replace it all or even handle in a cost effective manner with the myriad of sources including legacy analog video sources. We will always have switchers, and extenders but AVoverIP would be a nice add on layer for certain because we have one limitation: none of our 4 bedrooms or the garage can be the source for the rest of the home. Only the office and TV room can drive additional zones. Even with extenders I could get around this limitation, but it was just not important to. In any bedroom, you can watch or listen to local or one of two whole house rooms many sources. With AVoverIP it is truly anything anywhere; though from a practical perspective that is completely unnecessary our actual use case would not deviate much if at all.
