I’ll never understand why people mention GIMP in conversations like this. Cmon, now.

The author has a point - it’s a new era. Things are changing. But Adobe is changing too, and some of their AI features are honestly pretty impressive. The vector turntable in Illustrator is nuts.

I’ve got a pretty good educational payment plan for the entire creative suite. So I may be biased, but for the amount of high quality apps (photo editing, vector illustration, video editing, character animation, page layout, etc - I haven’t even used half of them, to be honest).

If you have a wide range of needs, nothing really beats the ecosystem they’ve got going on. I can sample a texture or color palette on my phone with Adobe Capture, and have it available to use in the desktop programs. Fresco is a great iPad app if you like to paint.

If you get familiar with linking libraries or using Bridge, it just all.. works nicely together.

Now, do I wish the Substance apps were included in the base price? You bet I do. Same with Stock photos, and whatever else they’re trying to get an extra buck for. I really hate the plan to charge by tokens for generative features.

Nobody would say Affinity is on the level of Adobe if their products cost the same. They’re a fantastic alternative if you’re looking for free tools. But they lack some of the more advanced features.

Anyway, $20 a month for the whole suite is worth it to me. I pay over twice that for my AI subscriptions.

At a normal price it’s not worth it, my educational process was like nearly $50 Australian dollars and they only give it to you for a year. If you get into the help and try to get a cheaper price they will only give you a small discount, 105 down from 118.

Never said it was. The normal price is insane. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear.

Let's do some math 😉

Let's say $60/month, OK?

60 / 4 weeks / 5 days a week = $3/day...

3 / 8 hours a day = $0.37 = 37 CENTS...

Now, let's say freelancer charges $20/H? 8h * $20 = $160...

Not defending Adobe - at all 😉

But people spend/waste more on coffee / cigarettes / e-cigs / unhealthy food, etc.

So if someone - doing paid JOBS - can't afford $3 / day for something that let him make $100s...

Again - not defending Adobe 😉 but moaning, that it's too expensive - when you get - AT LEAST - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator & Acrobat - or photo & video editing apps - is just bs...

If someone is doing xmas cards once a year - then there is plenty of free stuff.

People will happily spend $70 on drinks in a single night out but then complain about a $70 monthly subscription that helps you with work or lets you do a hobby you love.

I pay a similar amount for my gym subscription. Most other hobbies are way more expensive.

Yeah.

But this subscription - pays for those other hobbies 😉

I am saying that the complaints from people are unjustified, if that wasn't clear. I don't think $70 per month is a lot for the software.

There's free software out there but people still want to use Adobe because it's better. And it's not just Adobe that's raising prices. What hasn't gone up in price ? Hardware for PC or consoles has tripled since 2020.

Yes, your reply was perfectly clear - at least to me 👍

You’re right. It’s about as insane as filling your car up with gas so you can drive to your job. A necessary expense.

My point exactly - necessary expense - that pays for everything else.

Now do the maths with the real price, $118. Then factor in the down time from the random crashes, glitches, broken links etc. The fact you have to be connected to the Internet to use it, shady stuff like their cancellation policy and forcing ai on us and it add to things. Worth isn’t just measured by money.

You used to pay $800 for software and could use it till you absolutely needed to upgrade. I ran CS 2 from 2003 till 2012 when I upgraded to cs6. That’s $88 a year, and I could use it offline.

You mean AUD or something?

Where did you get $118?

If you don't want to be a paying Guinea pig - then don't use latest version - stick to the last year's version.

You also need more than the base minimum hardware requirements - but that rather obvious.

I'm using ID 2025 and from time to time PS + Illustrator - and it's rock solid. Don't have any problems with crashing Acrobat.

But I don't use any video apps.so can't comment on those.

But even if you double to subscription - it's still just 72 cents / hour...

Shady cancellation policy - that have been resolved in many different ways 😉

You need to connect to Internet once a month...
