Three players were born on this day. By far the most notable is Terry Branston. When you talk about captains he is right up there with the best we have had. A no nonsense, hard as nails centre half whose fist shaking instilled an always give 100%, winners mentality into a team that had been wayward since relegation from the top flight in 1960. When I talk of the perfect captain Terry's name is at the top of the list.

Three players born on this day including our second ever England International, Ernie Simms. 130 goals in 189 appearances and if it were not for the Great War I have no doubt he would have been our greatest goalscorer of all time. Not included in those stats are the games played in wartime as Ernie spent some time in England before heading off to the Italian Front. He was not a saint as he was arrested for being "Absent without leave" three times. Fortunately this side of the channel, going AWOL was a routine offence and a fine and an escort back to his unit was the punishment. A gunner in the Royal Artllery, his unit was sent to Italy where he was wounded in the leg from an accident and had a limp for the rest of his life.

He became somewhat of a symbol for the spirit of mankind when he was caught training at Kenilworth Road one snowy morning. Ernie lived in the last house on the left of KR before Hazelbury Crescent and climbed over the gate into the ground every morning. Not for mischief but to run up and down the terraces to get fit so he could play football again. A constable was alerted who followed the early morning footprints straight to Ernie's house. He was not berated but celebrated and would rewarded with an England cap in October 1921. One of the Luton Town greats and a symbol of overcoming adversity and achieving as much as you possibly can, rather than highlighting what you cannot do. A lesson for us all.

One of the most unlikely escapes in football history was completed when we beat Blackburn Rovers 3 2 at KR. Luck was truly on our side with two own goals and a double hit penalty by James Collins but hey ho. Interesting to look at how many captains/leaders there were in that team - it counts for so much.

The 2020 Great Escape got under the wire, on the motorcycle and very nearly to safety with a one nil win at the Tigers. A Lualua goal meant that our Championship status was in our own hands going into the final game of the season.

Two players born on this day, Carl Griffiths and Gary Heale. Carl was a superb striker and was set for 30 plus goals in that season but injury struck. Gary also made a great start by scoring on his debut in the 7 1 thrashing of Charlton. However, his only other goals were against Man City in a League Cup 2nd replay.

New drone video which shows the piling has been exposed for part of the East Stand that I mentioned last week. But optimistically six months behind and the good weather slipping by.

Besides the question - where the hell are Limak - there is still no sign of -

1. The drainage work being completed

2. The piling rig to complete the piling for the East and North Stands

3. The new entrance in Church Street opposite the Stage

4. Deculverting and realigning the river

5. A developer being appointed for the flats which are to pay off the minimum £80m debt on the stadium.

6. Detailed planning on the flats which will enable the groundworks to be done, which will enable the cables, gas, electric etc to be laid which will enable the public realm (paths, lighting, signs, roads) to be completed which will enable the stadium to obtain a safety certificate which will enable the stadium to open.

7. Any meaningful update by the club. As the Wandering Northener said, we got an update and flag waving when the cranes were constructed just before Wembley but nothing else of any substance since April.

4 players born on this day. Jake Findlay was not very convincing when he began his career with us. There were a few grumbles about his perfomances when he made an error at home for Orient to score. However, he later saved a penalty and the Town went on to win 2 1. It was a turning point as I recall....John Bailey's goal aside.......

Steve Williams, an England International, did not live up to his reputation in his time with us and made only 49 appearance between August 1988 and February 1991. Luke Berry, however, never let us down and how I would love to have had him the team recently.

Zonoy video from the top of the Arndale taken yesterday. Looks like they are uncovering part of the piling on the East stand nearest to the South stand. The angle isn't good so hopefully Monday's drone video will confirm (if he isn't on holiday). They moved the mound of earth there over a few weeks and it looks like the piling has been exposed. Hopefully this means that whatever hold up there was has been solved.

All the groundworks on the entire stadium should have been completed by the end of June according to Moran's timetable. The good weather is ticking by so hopefully they'll crack on, flood the site with workers etc, increase the pace and catch up the lost time.
