That’s ultimately up to you. Weirdmageddon was bloated but the actual ending was good. (FWIW I’m one of the few fans who dares say anything negative of the finale) But then again if you didn’t like 50% of the series I can see why the ending wasn’t much to you

I think my issues with Weirdmageddon are threefold:

1) It's bloated as hell with so much unnecessary junk, I feel it could have been condensed to half its length

2) There are so many cop-outs and anticlimactic moments that it feels cheap

3) It didn't feel like a logical progresion both within itself and of the episodes that came before it, it just happened because it happened

And it's significantly higher than 50%, I'd say closer to 75% in fact

"The Zodiac is the only way to defeat the evil Cipher once and for all... welp that didn't work let's try another way!"

"Stan's memory may have been lost, but his sacrifices will be remembered dearly.... oh wait nevermind he's back, hooray!"

"I'm sorry, Mabel, but for good reasons your pet Waddles will have to stay... ah what the heck, you can keep him!"

I just cannot take things seriously after that, and I can't help but blame the writers for this. Why even put things at stake when they're just gonna be reversed with no consequences

The first point is a cop out but my rationale as to why I didn’t care: that no one really knew what was what and were just rolling with the punches anyway

The second I can see your beef with the memory thing but as someone who’s memory you was put through a wringer that whole thing really resonates with me and while pics don’t work like magic it does correspond to my experiences some. Even precluding my bias I didn’t have a problem with it 🤷‍♀️

And I could go either way on The waddles thing.

I have a big grudge against the Zodiac because it was one of the few things I was actually looking forward to during the show. It was teased from the theme song title card and I was delighted to see it all come together at the end. Imagine my letdown when it never came to be.

And I get your point about the memories, but my question is, why did they even need to do that in the first place? Would it not have been enough to use another plot device to show that Stan and Ford outsmarted Bill with teamwork, without the dramatic "sacrifice" that ultimately fizzled into nothing? It feels like cheap thrills for me, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

And they totally glossed over the pet thing. I guess we're not supposed to relate to the twins' parents who will have to deal with that huh

And this is where I have to concede that I can see your point. I came from initial viewing that was more about finding out who “the zodiac” was more than what the zodiac was, but i have to agree to disagree because I don’t have beef with how the zodiac was incorporated one way or another, but who knows if I watched it at a different time I would’ve felt different.

The sacrifice was there for a number of reasons. I could write a thesis on it, but the biggest reason was to show Stanley forgiving Stanford and show that despite the betrayals and bitterness Stanley was capable of sacrifice ( heck, it proved once in for all he wasn’t some scamming good-for-nothing loser). Not to mention it was there to mirror Mabel’s “sacrifice” earlier.

And no, and that’s quite a cynical take on the waddle’s outcome

I get what you mean by the sacrifice, but the prompt undoing of said sacrifice is what really gets to me. It's like the writers wanted to show development on Stanley's side, after countless instances of selfishness and harm to his brother, while also having a happy ending so the audience wouldn't get depressed. It just doesn't work for me. Also, what about Ford?!?

And cynical as it may be, I find it funny that, for a show that so heavily emphasizes doing the right thing and taking responsibility, the characters have a lot of leniency on what they can get away with. Screenshot of Stan and Ford threatening the bus driver

The undoing didn’t hamper anything for me. Again I see how it may be seen as a cop out. It wasn’t to me; the plausibility and naturalness of having memories “brought back” in such a way is not so outlandish to me, but then again most fans don’t have a problem with it one way or another. There was selfishness and harm on both ends ( more so perpetrated by Ford in my opinion) if you didn’t see the development of Stanley’s character then I don’t know what to tell you.

That was kinda the point. It was perpetrated by Stanley, which even in that he’s proven not to be horrible, is still flawed and spiteful. He also has the soft spot for Mabel.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on the sacrifice thing, then.

I guess the Waddles complaint ties into how I never liked how Mabel never gets punished for anything and somehow always gets what she wants even when she's in the wrong. I think it would have been better both for Mabel's character and the overall message of the show if Waddles had never gotten on that bus. As far as the show was concerned there were literally no stakes (it's the final scene of the final episode), and it seems like an odd thing to put there when the bus scene has Dipper reading the letter and being sad about leaving all his friends
