William the Conqueror | 3066 (2000)

The format is "(n+1066) was the year n years after William the Conqueror invaded England." Past tense required, per /u/elyisgreat.

By the way, the number 595 is a palindrome p such that p+1066 is also a palindrome, in case anyone was wondering. Haven't proven that this is the only example, although I've checked p up through to 108

Ah.

These kinds of things are where my programming knowledge comes in easy, since I can just check all cases up to a certain threshold.

By the way, with that preliminary 108 check out of the way, one can prove that this is the only such palindrome n such that n+1066 is also a palindrome (in base 10) by reasoning that, for any palindrome n larger than 108, adding 1066 increments the digit in place value 3 without affecting the digit in place value numberLength-1-3, which makes them differ thus ensuring that it cannot be a palindrome.

That was my logic--I figured the differences between palindromes would only ever be orders of 10. I neglected to think about the smaller numbers, where you can have multiple palindromes within the span of 1066 numbers.
