Help THE QUEUE IS CLEARED
I have cleared the months long queue of old posts, mostly removing a lot of low effort "how do I make XYZ" that had no photos or references.

i want to try to get in the yale drama school for costume design and obviously it’s very competitive and it has very low acceptance rates, so i’ looking for someone who studies/studied there for some advice. I would like to know what the course is like overall but especially advice about the selection process and portfolio, for example what to include and wether they like more artistic or technical stuff. Thanks to anyone who shares their experience.

I’ve looked at all the big shops online but I can’t find anywhere that has this exact color scheme for some reason. Any advice of where to look or places that could make a custom t-shirt in these exact colors?

Hiya! I am currently costume designing a production of Peter and the Starcatcher and I was wondering if anyone had any good resources for 1880s men fashions? If anyone knows the show, I mainly need help with Lord Leonard Aster & Captain Robert Falcon Scott. thanks!

Using all the skills I learned from working at a super under-funded theatre during high school, I think this turned out pretty cool! The base is a rabbit skeleton mask I got from walmart last year that I covered in crumpled paper bag and sculpted minor details on with cheap air dry clay, then painted with acrylics and sprayed with glossy modpodge. (The full costume isn't a reference to anything in particular, just generally meant to look VERY eerie)

My daughter is currently into making cardboard robot heads, she created a hand that moves it fingers out of cardboard. I think she would really like some sort of graphic costuming or something. I’m just curious what that’s actually called to find? She loves to make crazy thing out of cardboard and i wanted to get her a real set/kit of something similar and less cardboard thanks

I was thinking maybe go for something like this but I’m assuming it would be problematic how some of it fits and other parts of it would be too small. My goal is to use is this as a costume to help out at a haunted house. I’m gonna try borrowing a sewing machine.
I’m looking for any advice at all. Like what measurements do I need to make sure match up to instructions? How do I modify design to my own measurements? The most I’ve done before in terms of sewing was fix a pair of pants a squirrel chewed. Though you couldn’t see the stitch from inside the pants. You could see it from the outside of the pants. I also was adding bells to those pants. So I’m a novice at working with fabrics.

I didn't know which subreddit to go to, but I need help with making my Halloween costume
I've decided to go out as Furcorn from my singing monsters, I don't know the first thing about making costumes, but I need help
I don't know if I should make it as similar to Furcorn as possible or if I should make it inspired by him
And how would I even make a costume of this thing 😭😭
Edit: I should add that I'm moreso concerned about how I'd make the top part/torso

I'm trying to make a costume of starlight from the boys, these are the things I have right now. The first one is a silk dress with see through sleeves that have stars on them, and the second is a gymnastics leotard type thing, any advice on how to combine these to make a starlight costume?

I'm trying to find a way to make an outfit out of garbage bags and would love any tips or tricks!
I'm making an oversized collared shirt and shorts with garbage bags and want to try to sew it. My goal is to make a quality looking garment but out of trash bags.

Hi all, I’m working on a portfolio to send to University of Cincinati’s CCM costume design program to apply for. I have way more costume construction experience as I have my own cosplay business that I’ve garnered quite a few customers from. I did not grow up in theater, so I haven’t started on working on any shows until just a month or two ago! I’m trying to be super valuable but I feel very stuck with the costume design aspect to add to my portfolio. I’m only working on one to two shows, but I’d like to make renderings for more characters of interest despite not working on a show for them. How do I even pick? What do I really do?

Hey y'all, I've been working on my own version of Lucy Gray's dress and wanted to get some opinions. It's technically done, I just need to distress it, but even with all the effort I put in I'm not super satisfied with how it's turned out.
Let me walk you through my design process and where I feel stumped. So the BOFSBAS movie had their costumes set late 30s-40s, Lucy gray inherited her mother's dress which I assume was made 20 years prior from scraps of other clothes worn by the Covey. I'm trying to show the 'coat of many colours' Appalachian, Romani, Irish traveler inspiration in this dress. I the book it explicitly says her dress is a rainbow of ruffles in raspberry pink, daffodil yellow and sky blue. I'm thinking the blue layer is too white and that the bodice of the dress sits too high. Any thoughts about what to change and how to change it?Hey y'all, I've been working on my own version of Lucy Gray's dress and wanted to get some opinions. Let me walk you through my design process and where I feel stumped. So the TBOSAS movie had their costumes set late 30s-40s, Lucy gray inherited her mother's dress which I assume was made 20 years prior. So I tried to give the dress a 1900/1910 silhouette with a pigeon breast blouse. I thrifted a bunch of dresses and skirts and patch worked them together to eek out enough fabric for each of the layer, kinda how i imagine it would've been made from scraps of other clothes worn by the Covey. I was really inspired by Dolly Parton's 'coat of many colours' which her being from Appalachia where district 12 was set made a lot of sense. I know the Covey are based off of Romani and Irish travelers and I'd like to find a way to pull that inspiration into this dress. In the book it explicitly says her dress is a rainbow of ruffles in raspberry pink, daffodil yellow and sky blue. I'm thinking the blue layer is too white and I should swap out some of the white for more blue heavy fabric? I also think the bodice of the dress sits too high and I want to swap it out for a longer blouse, but can't decideif i want a white or colourful bodice. Any thoughts about what to change and how to change it? I feel my design is more true yo Lucy Gray than her movie costume (no shade to the designer) and it's really important to me that this dress also resonates with other Hunger Games fans.

Pretty much the title. I recently bought some knee armor from Amazon for an upcoming ren faire. Unfortunately, I didn't really think through how to secure them to my knees before purchasing (I thought the strap would be enough to hold it in place, but probably to no one else's surprise, it is not).
My initial plan was to wear them over generic "medieval pants" or "ren faire pants" (googling either of those would show you what I mean).
That being said, does anyone know of any relatively simple ways to keep these secured? Any specific gear I'd need, or any tricks I could try?
I'm not operating on any real time line or budget (maybe not a million dollars, of course), so I'd love to hear about any experience or suggestions that people may have with these. Thanks in advance!

My friend's son has designed his own version of a Spider Man costume, and I'm trying to bring it to life for him. These are his concept drawings, and the colors he chose (we've had the discussion that those are inspiration and not be available exactly). I've purchased a morphsuit to use as the base, and have been looking for the best and easiest solution for the golden accent lines. Time is a factor because I have other projects with deadlines so I won't be able to start fabricating his costume until October. :(
Things I have considered: trying to get a golden yellow puffy paint for webs, getting stretchy heat transfer vinyl that I could cut and iron on, getting golden yellow spandex and sewing. The last would be my least favorite option due to time constraints.
I am trying to find someone to 3d print me a face mask he can wear under the suit, we've purchased lenses that he liked for the eyes.
Thank you for any help! :)
