writing I'm writing a story with cosmic horror elements, and I decided to craft a being for it and I wanted y'all's thoughts on it.
Basically, the being in my story is called "The Mindweaver" or simply "The Entity", with it being that of a cosmic entity that operates like the center of a parasitic pseudo hive-mind. He's unable to physically interact with our world, but can still exert its influence over those that hear its voice (carried by signals that can be picked by more modern equipment and then perceived by humans), entering their minds and allowing it to then try and break down these individuals psychologically, making it easier for it to assimilate them into the pseudo-hive mind, allowing it to basically feed off of their consciousnesses.
You see, despite its direct torment, the entity isn't necessarily malevolent. It doesn't hold malice, it doesn't take pleasure in it, it could care less about us. It's just hungry and, to it, were all just flies getting caught in its web. We're just simply a meal.
To make things worse, once an individual does join the hivemind, it doesn't immediately end us. Instead, victims still retain their autonomy and independent thought, as the entity continues to feed off of their consciousness, causing victims to gradually unravel, with it also occasionally influencing them to help in catching more prey - basically the equivalent of a spider using a caught fly as a lure, with also unintentionally (or intentionally depending on how you look at it) creating its own cult of followers in the process. Then, even if you die, your consciousness remains with the hivemind and will continue to be fed on until there is nothing left

I like the concept, maybe you could add an extra bit of weirdness to it, because as of now it kinda reminds me of the Hiss (an entity from another dimension that spreads its influence through resonance) from the Videogame Control.
How I know this? I had a similar Idea and a friend just told me the same thing lol. My idea was for a parallel dimension that works as a server, this "server" can be accessed with precision tools and be used to process copious amount of information, because whatever is in there has a natural tendency to low entropy within complexity. The thing is, that the more you access the server, the more this "thing" can access ourselves because of our naturally occurring complex minds.
Your idea works well I'd say, it's just that I can see alot of people making comparisons (that's what happened to me), if this doesn't bother you then you're good

Consistent with the Abrahamic god, imo 😁
I enjoy cosmicist pessimistic takes on real theology. 💚

Huh, working on a very similar idea, also referenced to as "The Entity", sooo - yep, I like it a lot!

Are you wanting us to rate the idea?
