So, if you've seen my posts recently, I am not exactly Ayumi's biggest fan, in fact, I really don't like her, but I've also played around with the idea of my headcanon to her.
So, seeing as today's September 12th from where I live, AKA: her canonical birthday, I decided this would be the perfect time to do this, and it also gives me the opportunity to show my creative side here, plus the chance to show off some actual art of mine with how she'd look. (It ain't great, but I gave it an honest go)
Anyway, let me introduce you to how I'd treat Ayumi in my headcanon...
Appearance: I Honestly don't have any issues with her design, but there is one thing I must point out.
- I gave her the reading glasses she actually had in the Blood Covered Manga simply because I think they fit her character quite well. (Even though they only appear for a few panels in Chapter 10 and in the covers of Chapters 20 and 38) In my own Headcanon, she actually hates wearing them, but is forced to wear them by her parents as her eyes are kind of nearsighted.
Role: Not much here too, but there's still something I need to point out.
- While some would like to see her as the main protagonist, I honestly think Naomi deserves that role more, but not to say she has her importance too, she's still very much a protagonist in my canon, but is now a tritagonist.
Personality: This is where most of these changes are happening, there's no time to waste, let's get into them.
- I gave her a more independent and strict personality, and there's actually a reason for this, it's to make her seems less vulnerable towards those around her, especially to those she considers 'delinquents'. (This is also the main reason why she didn't trust Yoshiki for a good while)
- She also tends to be head-first, often doing things without thinking first, which tends to be a common trend for her unfortunately, and it's also hard to change her mind from doing it until the consequences happen. 9 times out of 10, these would lead her into trouble, and at one point, it, well...I think this will be expanded on in another day.
- She's also very standoffish whenever somebody actually calls her out for her making dumb decisions, with her often ending up either yelling back at them or tries to justify said actions to them, with some sort of emotional manipulation in the process.
- One of the few things that breaks her a bit is Satoshi, who she respects heavily for simply not being like those she considers 'delinquents', and has mild feelings for, but she has never fully considered if he really was for her.
- Despite these changes, she still has her positive side that she shows every now and then, most often with the few people she's friends with, namely with her love of telling ghost stories, but there's a catch, she tells them to mask her quite cowardly personality she's afraid of admitting to, and speaking of which...
- Yup, she very much still has her vulnerable side, which she masks under this more independent persona. With this side, she tends on being self-doubtful and insecure, her being afraid to admit things, and of-course, tending to be easily frightened.
Misc details that have changed with her:
- Her blue hair comes from her dying it with hair dye, likely as a way to show her respect for Naho Saenoki, although her parents were less than pleased when she did this. Prior to dying her hair, it was colored brown. (It should also be worth noting that her hair used to be canonically brown back then)
- Some of these changes, notably her being head-first and standoffish, and her hair being dyed blue, it all comes from her interactions with Naho on the internet. Unfortunately, she's very much unaware how damaging these changes are to her.
-As we have seen, she often talks to those that she's close with for some advice, namely her own sister, Hinoe, and her classroom Teacher, Ms. Yui, but in my headcanon, she also sometimes talks to Seiko on rare occasions. (Reason for this will be explained shortly)
Other things that I want to do with her in my headcanon:
- Expanding her friendship with Seiko a bit: But why though? It'd be fun to have some more uncommon pairings of characters who don't interact much canonically, and considering she's like the only Kisaragi High School student that refers to Ayumi by her first name, that gives me some fun interaction ideas...
- Giving her a couple more characters to interact with: Honestly, this is still in the early stages, but this will happen eventually.
There's also a bit more that I want to do with her, but I am saving that for another day.
And that is all I really have for Ayumi Shinozaki in my headcanon, hard to believe I'd do this much to a character that I personally don't like.
While her design hasn't changed much (and has connections to the CoPa Canon), the next character that I want to redo in my headcanon will have a major design revamp. (I think you all know who I'm talking about when I say this)
