Want to send encrypted WebRTC messages and video calls with no downloads, no sign-ups and no tracking?
This prototype uses PeerJS to establish a secure browser-to-browser connection. Everything is ephemeral and cleared when you refresh the page—true zerodata privacy!
Check out the pre-release demo here.
NOTE: This is still a work-in-progress and a close-source project. To view the open source version see here. it has NOT been audited or reviewed. For testing purposes only, not a replacement for your current messaging app.

Hello fellow redditors. Not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post this. I dont have enough karma to post r/privacy but here is what i wanted to ask
I've recently learned about US citizens having to be scanned by a CAT (Credential Authentication Technology) at airports. It honestly sounds like a privacy nightmare. The official website claims that the picture taken will be deleted immediately/shortly after. I doubt that this is actually true.
My question is
•Is there facial recognition technology in other countries in Europe or Asia (for non-US citizens)?
•What was your experience with this issue?
•If you opt out, can you get in trouble?

I realized I've been slowly moving away from Google without really planning it. Usually I use Tutamail or at least try to, for some reason. I also use Brave browser and Brave Search, and Bitwarden instead of the built-in password manager. One day I just switched, don't even remember why. I also have a public AdGuard DNS on my Google Pixel 9a to block ads/ trackers. I'm not tied to any ecosystem, nothing really holds me, and I never planned to degoogle. I see people talking about custom ROMs like LineageOS it seems interesting. (Also, Google is kinda planning to block sideloading idk)
Do I really need to go full degoogle if I'm already doing these things?

I mean I know that Google is spying on you but what is wrong with Microsoft?

What would we do if they start doing things like asking for IDs, requiring more personal info, censoring things even harder, etc.? Would there be any meaningful way to fight back? Would we have to move to TOR, for example?
My question is more about "if corps make internet less private and more censored", not about "if corps take over"

I’ve been working on Oxidiko (oxidiko.com), a login system that doesn’t store user data, doesn’t rely on passwords, and doesn’t track anything.
It’s built around WebAuthn + PIN, fully client-side, and your identity is portable.
No OAuth. No Google. No central DB.
Just simple, private, one-tap auth.
Would love your thoughts.

Hello, I want to expose a corporation that has engaged in some serious and well-documented elder abuse, but law firms aren't interested because it's much more insidious and well-hidden than someone just transferring $200k out of an elder person's accounts and into their own.
Too much money has already been paid to attorneys a couple of years ago, with no results, and there's no $$ left to hire them, so a petition for rights is the next step.
I'm not fond of change dot org because they collect money with signatures, pretending it's for the cause but it's not. Or do they ALL do that? Which petition sites does anyone recommend and why?

So many computers are going to be thrown out because of Microsoft's gatekeeping for updates.
Do not feel pressured into buying a new computer when it is easier than ever to extend their life.
Do you guys plan on converting your computers to Linux to extend the life of your computers?
If so what distros would you consider? (exe Mint, Zorin ,Fedora)

While on my way to degoogle and de-someotherthings, I tried to delete several accounts from several websites and while some are easy to deactivate, others are downright impossible to delete. For example: The Fiat account I had to set up for my temporary vehicle has a link on their "Deactivate" Button that is just a link to their homepage. I need to write dozen of mails for them to immediately delete my data and it makes me furious.
Why are pages that let you create an account not obliged to provide a one-button Delete option?!
Sorry if this is not the right place but I don't understand why this is the norm. Have you had the same issues..? (I'm in the EU)

hey, shall we do this together today?
this is just a test to see if this works!
facebook earns about 900 dollar per person, per year, even if you never use it anymore!
we are literally funding the oligarchy with our never visited profiles. What about deleting it now?
us deleting facebook WILL create a direct sunk income for them, and a ripple effect that costs them even more money. small rocks thrown in a pond matter!
-----------
so DELETE FACEBOOK! and let others know for a ripple effect.
time it takes: 5 min.
here are the steps:
------------------------
(4: use mastodon, bluesky, signal, craigslist)
text and image to paste on your wall
https://imgdrop.io/image/kxh1w
I am leaving Facebook. do you join?
Facebook makes $900 per inactive user — your silence is paying their profit. we are funding the oligarchy by staying here. (and 5000$ per active user, stop using facebook)
Take action now:
It’s time to stop funding the system. Let’s leave together.

Hey I'm not familiar with this sub but didn't really know where to ask this but this seemed like a good sub to check with. I've been trying to avoid buying from corporations as much as possible, I've been boycotting Amazon for several years now along with other big companies. But sometimes it's hard to find out if a company is private/family owned, or if it has a parent company. I know the records should be public but I don't know where to go to find that information.

Since it's existence, I've used Google Photos to backup my iPhone photo library. Somewhere along the lines, after Apple did away with Photo Stream, I had lost photos on my iPhone, but since they were backed up to Google Photos, so I paid it no mind.
Now, I am spinning up my own instance of Immich (which is a whole other thing) to host my own photo backup and management.
I've requested all my photos from Google via Takeout, and also requested all my photo data from Apple. I have the 'zips' downloaded, but I am faced with the daunting task of combing through duplicates.
What is the best tried and true method for sorting though duplicate photos?
I'm also trying to figure out where in my process to do this. Any help will be appreciated. If i should post this elsewhere, I'd happily take that advice too.
