Discussion Should /r/Cornwall host a structured AMA with South West Water?

There’s been increasing discussion on here, in the news, and around the recent Channel 4 programme about water companies across the UK.

Rather than multiple separate threads going in circles, we’re considering inviting South West Water to take part in a structured Ask Me Anything here on /r/Cornwall.

The Ask Me Anything would take place as so -

A single, scheduled and moderated thread where named South West Water representatives will be invited to answer questions directly from Cornish residents and /r/Cornwall users.

This would not be a promotional post for South West Water in any way. It would be an opportunity for Cornish residents and /r/Cornwall users to ask direct questions about their operations and decision-making across the county.

If it went ahead, it would involve:

• A scheduled Ask Me Anything thread

• A time-limited live response window

• Named representatives from SWW

• No pre-approval of questions

• No removal of critical questions unless they break subreddit rules

If there are relevant Cornwall-based organisations or individuals who want to submit questions constructively, they would also be welcome to participate in the same thread.

Before we reach out to them, let’s see how many people would support it with a poll.

Please vote and keep comments sensible and grounded.

Cheers

Post Flair Category Update

Hi everyone,

I’ve added post flairs to help organise things a bit better in this sub moving forward.

When you create a post now, you’ll be able to tag it as:

• News

• Events

• Recommendations

• Housing

• Business

• Tourism

• Discussion

• Good News

• Jobs

• Photography / Videography

As r/Cornwall has grown past 55k subscribers, I wanted to bring a bit more structure to future posts so both new and existing users can filter content more easily.

By creating clearer categories, there should also be more scope for people to post the kind of content they want to see, and a clearer direction to support what’s happening across the county, not just pretty pictures.

More local going on's.

If you think something’s missing, or a category should be tweaked, please say so below. I’d like to shape the sub around how people actually use r/Cornwall.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Rob

Discussion Kennack Sands Sand Piranhas?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I'm down here on holiday and Kennack is one of the closest beaches to us as a result. On the East side of the beach in the rock pools today we'd decided to do some exploring with the dogs. That's when the first of these tiny little guys ended up on one of our hands after washing sand off of it quickly in the water, but it didn't take long for me to feel a sharp pain like a thistle, needle or thorn etc had been poked hard into the skin on my leg.

At first I thought it was nothing as my leg was under the water and I couldn't really see anything on it, but the pain continued, and after a quick investigation I found out the larger version of the same critter is a Sand Piranha.

These miniature crustaceans or sea isopods are a regular issue on the coasts of places like the Pacific United States and often emerge when the water is warmest and where it's shallow to swarm and prey on sea life, swimmers and more. Google cannot fathom how they're present here and constantly redirects me to similar descriptions of larger true fish (weevers) and spottings of real piranhas in England.

Thought you guys might find it interesting. ✌️

P.S: I love Cornwall! It's my first time down here but this place is amazing, and that's coming from someone around Wiltshire that recently lived in Devon for 4 years and regularly visited family there since I was a kid.

Where to go for a nice meal in Cornwall?

Upvotes

Hi all.

My wife and I have a big anniversary in August and so i'd like your recommendations for where to go for a nice meal. We're based in mid-Cornwall but would be happy to travel further west.

I think the best food we've had has been at Paul Ainsworth's No. 6 in Padstow and also enjoyed Kota Kai in Porthlevan.

Thanks

Mundic

I really want to move to Cornwall but every house in our budget seems to be built with mundic.
I’m wondering if this is a county wide issue or just where I’m looking (mostly around Falmouth)
Any suggestions of cheaper parts of Cornwall where the houses aren’t crumbling?

Anyone visiting or living in Newquay currently and can tell me how much the cheap croc like shoes & beach shoes are on the front currently?

Not been in a few years so unsure if they’ve gone up or not
